A friendly reminder to all of us who work on cars at home

No. But it's the stuff that needs to be said and have people think about.
If just one person reads this thread and is saved next time they work underneath a car because they took precautions then I'll consider it mission ******* accomplished! :)

My original comment was poorly worded, what I meant to say is "it's never nice to hear of things like this".

I've also been in the "omg car is broken... wait, it's the chocks" situation. Regarding jacking the car up I always have two stands, two jacks where possible and spare wheels in situ. I avoid ramps, never been keen on them, getting on and off them introduces another place for error.

No long ago I saw a car that had been left overnight, with a wheel off, being supported by a single leg scissor jack  brave... stupid...

Any of you ever succeeded and dented your sill panel? :p

No, just “what, what’s stuck.. oh for gods...”

Always when I’m working on brakes too, so I briefly wonder if I refitted the calliper inside out or something.

Is that why you ran away to Mehico?

I'm not the criminal some of you think I am :p

I've seen three here, one in France, and another couple in the UK. I won't make an already pretty gruesome thread worse by describing them, but I do feel like death follows me around sometimes. As the OP says, it's always a good reminder to be careful, although not the kind of reminder you want.

When I think back to some of the things I’ve done for jacking up cars I wonder hope I’m still here. Changed days now though. I’ma big fan of the wheel thrown under the car as a safety

If they're all motors related then you really need to start another thread, unless JRS approves, or unless they would incriminate you...

Hmmm, if you'd seen me hanging off this engine hoist like I was sailing a catamaran when it started to tilt....

We were the same when stripping a MX5 for my mates exo build. We forgot to split the steering linkage and not one of us were even going to attempt to get underneath it! Managed to get it free eventually however.

Anyway after this thread I actually went and bought some chocks so my pair of bricks can retire now.
