Delays Continue well in to 2022

miners keep gpu makers making money. gamers just buy the one card and may bust it with overclock gone to far and then rma costing gpu makers more money.
miners a good for business. give it a few years and market should be back to normal.

That is such a weak argument against gaming GPU's and so wrong on every level it made me laugh.

not as bad as the ecological effect of mining coal etc.

and now clutching at straws for another argument. Mining for coal ? Whats that a new cryptocurrency. :D

2023 easy.

the way things are going, that might be closer to the truth than you think (assuming it was a sort flippant comment that is). I said a while back I don't think this situation will change until the end of the year, now I reckon it'll go on till 2022 like the thread title says, possibly longer. Its gonna take a monumental crash in the mining market, 10 year jail term for scalping if caught (nice thought, that one) and manufacturers building more fabs to get the situation back to anything approaching normal.

Think I'll change me name to "the resident cynic" :p

i was looking at grabbing a 3080 last year then maybe this year now iv sort of settled for a 4000 series card end of next year maybe.

If anyone wants to game they really should just get a series x or ps5 whenever they get a chance. I own an Rtx 3070 and its played about 5 minutes of games in over 2 weeks. My Series X is equally capable at giving me enjoyment and so much better value its unreal.

Think of all the money you'll save and when new GPUs do become available the performance jump will be really noticeable. Also prices should collapse when Cryptocurrencies collapse again (if and when that ever happens).

Which is a fast declining industry. Mining is showing no signs of decline. It’s growing and the ecological effects are getting worse.
Exactly, I believe if you want to invest in cryptocurrency you should buy it directly. This is much better for the environment and your PC components.

Sure makes me grateful to already have a 3080, #hugsandkissesmy3080andtakesittobed.

I shall get great resale value.

can crypto currency not be banned on a global scale or is it hard to do?

Would be difficult.

You'd end up having the police studying abnormal power usage reports and going out at night with thermal cameras looking for the heat of the cannabis crypto farms.

You could make interaction with it illegal and that would cripple its value since all major businesses would dump it and in future you'd have to rely on illegal and/or offshore businesses to give you usable money for it and you'd have no comeback if they scammed you.

That would make it very hard to remain relevant.

Of course there would be people screaming about the government wiping out the value of something they paid for to deal with.

That's what I'm hoping will happen. Make it illegal to mine/trade use etc. If governments across the globe did that, it would crash overnight and finally bring normality back to the GPU market.

The thing is surely it would be pretty trivial for governments to shut down the exchanges and prevent crypto being readily convertible into fiat currenicies ( GBP, USD, etc) ? Or is there something I'm missing?

I'm kind of surprised they haven't given crypto poses a thread to national currencies and removes government oversight of transactions?

Somethings going to have to change, as otherwise the PC gaming market is going to take a massive hit, as users won't be able to upgrade, and fewer second hand components will be available at reasonable prices for those on a budget. More expensive systems and components mean less money to spend on games.

It's also true of the new consoles. The platforms make most of their money on games - consoles are often sold at a loss - so fewer new consoles sold mean fewer games sold. Given how expensive AAA games are to develop, that could have serious consequences in the long term.
