Keeping up with the Markles

It was a hugely dangerous allegation to make, and Meghan was aware because Oprah was quick to come out later and state that it wasn't the Queen or Philip that raised the 'concern'.

She was aware of the bomb, but she dropped it anyway. I hope she is right.....because no one wins if she isn't.

My gf said something like not having an opionin on this stuff is effectively supporting it. Or something like that. I can't remember exactly. But I responded saying this is exactly why I avoid it!

That's the whole "silence is consent" argument which is just rubbish.

Next it'll be "silence is racism". Oh wait:

It's a trap. The best thing is not to play the game at all - it's unwinnable because it's rigged and rotten to begin with.

Silence is violence!

Presumably the person who allegedly asked the question about the baby's future colour tone must have known Harry pretty well with regards to supposedly being a family member. All Harry had to say was he didn't wish to answer the question so that the person asking knew it wasn't a question he was comfortable with. Did Harry suggest at the time he was offended in some way, Oprah didn't ask that, it smacks of faux outrage to be bringing it up now.

Yes. Stuff like this.

I said to be honest I don't care enough to care. No one person can care about anything. And a lot of people don't even do anything. Still buy clothes made by sweat shops so stop preaching.

I care about environment and animals. I'm even hypocritical there.

I'd rather care about one thing and make a difference to that than everything and just moan about it. I go out litter picking because it's environmental for example. No longer eat meat. (not vegan though, hypocrisy)

Racism etc is obviously terrible. But if all you do is rant about it on social media you're doing no good at all.

If everyone cared about 1 issue enough to make a difference. There would be a lot fewer issues in the world.

it smacks of faux outrage to be bringing it up now.

A think a refinement of the term "faux outrage" would be to say "baseless outrage". The outrage is real but it has no foundation, which is why, when one questions the outraged, they come back with meniscus-thin evidence or just more questions.

The irony is that by ranting about it on social media they are actually worsening the problem. One black girl I spoke to put it rather well, she said that talking about slavery was irrelevant to her generation and even bringing it up just created divisions.

I mean if they genuinely took it as racist then surely he would have given a strong response to it at the time and been prepared to name them if he was that sure it was racist.

In this day and age "racist" is the ultimate power word. Meghan knows this so she will milk it like a Unigate factory robot. Even if the claim has no real foundation, it now has to be investigated. It's a terrible - almost evil - thing to do. She is using the plight of her ancestors as leverage to get herself ahead by accusing people who have shown no evidence of disliking blacks as doing exactly that. She is painting the Royal Family in a bad light when they have shown nothing but support to her. It's devious and calculated.

Don't be silly.

Better to spread implication on a chat show to hundreds of millions of viewers rather than make the position clear with whoever it was.

Again, where was it shown to be a "concern"?

We have no idea in what context it was asked at the time; all we have to go on is the context in which it was revealed to us - which was during an interview where the mother was talking about events that led her to feeling suicidal and which eventually culminated in her leaving the country.

So yea, if she felt it was relevant to the interview then it's safe to assume she felt it was not an innocuous enquiry.

I cannae be bothered to argue anything about this non-story, but everyone should read the Irish Times take just for the opening if nothing else:

Having a monarchy next door is a little like having a neighbour who’s really into clowns and has a house daubed in clown murals, displays clown dolls in each window and has an insatiable desire to hear about and discuss clown-related news stories. More specifically, for the Irish, it’s like having a neighbour who’s really into clowns and, also, your grandfather was murdered by a clown.

Beyond this, it’s the stuff of children’s stories. Having a queen as head of state is like having a pirate or a mermaid or Ewok as head of state. What’s the logic? Bees have queens, but the queen bee lays all of the eggs in the hive. The queen of the Britons has laid just four British eggs, and one of those is the sweatless creep Prince Andrew, so it’s hardly deserving of applause.

The contemporary royals have no real power. They serve entirely to enshrine classism in the British nonconstitution. They live in high luxury and low autonomy, cosplaying as their ancestors, and are the subject of constant psychosocial projection from people mourning the loss of empire. They’re basically a Rorschach test that the tabloids hold up in order to gauge what level of hysterical [batpoopery] their readers are capable of at any moment in time.

Well it looks like we can't name any colours for fear of racism so we must pretend they do not exist.

Am I even allowed to say white British now?

Mate you cannot "not see colour" or pretend it does not exist taking people has individuals, because that is actually VERY racist.

You have to acknowledge the institutional hatred and faults of a small group of rich people 250 years ago.

you absolute racist monster.

the number of low key racists really beginning to show on this forum lol
Can't help it, m'lud. Born white, therefore racist. I'm just part of the racist system.

Not one piece of furniture in my home is black. That alone speaks volumes.
