2021 Season Chilli Growing

I use the 3 part General Hydroponics Flora series and add some CalMag.
Seems to do the job nicely - I've not tried anything else yet so don't have any baseline for comparison :)

After exactly 60 days lost in the post-brexit intereuropean postal system, I've finally got my last order of seeds in for the season!
Black Kathumby and Antep Aci Dolma going in the germination station asap!

Black Kathumby looks amazing! And it doesn't sound mental hot either, so double win! Can't wait to see how that goes.
Now let me google the other one... Ah, bell pepper on steroids! Excellent choice :).

Just looked these up as they are new to me and they sound like excellent choices.
I'm struggling with germination this year, I think it is down to the varieties and that the seeds were not bough but gifted.
Got my fingers crossed that the heated prop wrapped in bubble wrap will have some popping up in the next week or so.

How many seeds did you get and would you be willing to part with 5 or each seed? more than happy to pay for them.

I'll have to check the exact count but either 8 or 12 of each. I'll send you 3 of each for free if you grow out a couple of my crosses

I have finally had a single seed germinate, I really hope the rest will pop us soon as I'm out of seeds.
@pooey I have plenty of space and looks like I'll have less plants than intended this year due to low germ rates.
Happy to grow out a couple of crosses for you if it would be helpful? Just PM me if interested.

Been working on a mini side project and trying to technology enable my mini greenhouse.
Building out a small solar powered device that can record temp & humidity and send it over wifi to a dashboard for trend analysis with a small servo to open the vents of the greenhouse if temps get to a set threshold. Also improving my mavity fed irrigation setup & homemade self watering pots.

If anyone is interested in irrigation (mavity fed / drip), self watering pots or technology monitoring / automation then let me know, happy to share what I know and geek out :p

No better time than to have a go at a small tech project!
Hardware is cheaper than ever and there are lots of great free software options too that don't need you to be too much of a techie.
Here is the list of hardware I'm using and software too:

Hardware
- mini computer (aka micro controller): ESP32 - £6.99 delivered
- temp & humidity sensor: DHT22 - £5.00 delivered
- solar panel & battery unit: Freeloader Sixer (designed for mobiles but perfect for my purposes too) - £12.00 delivered (secondhand)
- Mini servo: MG90 Servo - £4.00 delivered

Software
- Arduino IDE - Free (to write the code for the mini computer)
- Mosquitto MQTT - Free (to collect temp & humidity data from the mini computer)
- Sqlite - Free (to store the data collected)
- Node-Red - Free (to visualise / dashboard the data collected)

Total cost: £27.99 :)

Awesome, loving the light box! That a recycled PC case? :D

The ESP32, MQTT, Node-Red stack - I have a similar setup for monitoring the environment in my growtent via a RaspberryPi, did you also follow a video series by ChilliChump? :)

Yup it is an old PC case that I gutted then lined with some cheap emergency blanket material.
I kept the fan to vent the heat from the light, add new air and prevent humidity build up.
The light is just a cheap led panel that is way more under powered than stated but works fine for seedling & young plants before the great outdoors!

That is cool you have the same tech stack!
Yup I am following the ChilliChump series to put it together then hoping to add the Servo device in addition :)

@pooey Your plants are looking epic.
Nice colour on the leaves and dense growth too.
Pods already too! Your grow setup is definitely working a treat.

@Griffo Any updates on how you are getting on?
Would be great to get an update and see how things are progressing.

Hey Rath, thanks for asking! I'm still waiting for delivery from the chillies4u people, however the two 'sainsburys' seeds I germinated are doing well and on to their 2nd pair of leafy bits, under the grow lamp.

I've been building/printing my hydro thing, which I'll upload a photo of when I recall! The nutrients arrived, but sadly soft water variants, so am just waiting on the swaps for my southern water! :). As Pooey has expounded on the fun kratky approach, I'll probably try that for the sainsburys kids soon.

Knocked up the 'nets' to 3d print, the orange bit is to reduce flex if it gets heavy. Multi colours because I was printing other things and it's too much trouble to change the ink all the time :p.
