RTX 2070 Gigabyte fan, awful design!

I purchased the GeForce RTX™ 2070 WINDFORCE X2 rev 2.0 some time back and within about a week it started rattling/crickets really badly to the point you couldn't have the fans over 50%. I sent it back, got a new one and same thing again, which got much worse over time. So this time instead of RMA'ing I got a helpful link from John about replacing the fans. Took the fans out, could hear some sort of rattle coming from one, replaced both of them thinking this would fix it and yet again noisy cricket/rattle, if anything it was worse! Thankfully I was able to fix this with some advice from the net with others with the same issue and placed a couple of small pads between the heatsink and the fan cross shroud.

Although the older fans were faulty (rattled anyway), it seems the shroud is way too close to the heatsink which means as the fans speed up, or the heat increases it ends up picking up the fan vibration. So I'm not sure why this wasn't picked up in development as I'm not the only case of this!

Still it's nice to have an almost whisper quiet fan up to 100% now :D

send it back then

Last time it took 2 weeks and I was without a GPU then, with things how bad it is now it could take much longer!

GPU works brilliantly and it overclocks really well and this was a simple fix without the hassle! ( Besides I could get another GPU with exactly the same issue or worse )

Been running MSI's for last 5 years as I like their cooling setup. Had rattly fans with XFX's before, its annoying.

Last MSI I had, was before the EVGA 980 GTX I got, that ended up going back because at the time many were complaining of leaking fans :D

The EVGA 980 GTX SC is still going strong in the other system, what a card!

Have never been impressed with gigabyte cooler/fan design. Have had a few and always disappointed. Either poor thermals and or noisy, or just a straight up flimsy and crap build quality compared to the likes of Asus, msi, EVGA etc.

I have that GPU, just set mine to go from auto to 55% - fine, 70% - fine, 90% -fine little bit of a rattle for a split second and 100% - slight bit of a flight takeoff noise and more rattle than 90% was but that went away after half a second, so it definitely isn't all of them. It does have annoying coil whine if I get it to do a couple of specific things though, but I've stopped running them anyway for a while.

Got mine as B-Stock from here in June/July time too for a decent price, so wasn't 100% shiny brand new out of the box either, suspect it had been sent back because of the coil whine.

So just ours it seems :D

Nope, I have a Windforce RTX2060 super and you just described what I suffered. However, mine is a Rev2.0 and there doesn't seem to be much of a gap between the fan bracket/plastic and heatsink so I can't fit in any dampeners. What I did do was bump a metal support to prevent any GPU sag and this pretty much eliminated the rattling.
However, the cooling was still poor after undervolting and reducing power so I added two extra fans underneath... moral of the story is don't buy Gigabyte because they have really low standards.

Hi Guys,
same issue here. Gigabyte GeForce RTX 2070 WindForce X2 rev1.0… bought it a months ago and when it starts going the right fun make a noise. It's still in warranty and if I send it back I won't have another GPU and this is my working pc. Do you know if they do a replacement or need to wait for the repair?

Gigabyte have a UK RMA centre at least, so whatever they do it should be a lot quicker than most, where you'd need to send the card overseas. Just get in touch with them and see what they say. You never know, you might even get an upgrade out of it.
