Thanks for your responses. I actually have one of those plant sprayer things so will try applying snow foam with that.

I wouldn't use a snow foam in it, as it won't foam up. I'd look at something like a citrus pre wash instead.

Something like these for examples of what I mean*:

https://www.halfords.com/motoring/car-cleaning/car-shampoo/carplan-trade-super-tfr-5l-703633.html

* Not recommending these specifically, just examples of what you can pick up from halfords. You could buy better/cheaper online - but there's nothing wrong with the above examples per se.

So I took a trip to Halfords yesterday and bought:

Autoglym polar blast snow foam 2ltr £17
Autoglym shampoo 1ltr £12
G9 detailing spray £9

I'll give the snow foam a whirl in the pump sprayer, I will get a pressure washer in due course anyway but at least I can have a tinker.

I was low on the shampoo which I've found to be very good.

I was also low on the g9 stuff which I use with a clay mitt.

Can anyone recommend an alloy wheel cleaner I've used many on my old car but they always left stains all over my disks making it almost looking stripped then over due course they went orange. I don't want this on my new car. Stuff I was trying was dragons breathe etc.. spray on wash off type stuff. Is there any thats not so corrosive. Also what's the best for tar spots, moving from a black to a white car again there all noticeable.

For wheels I use wonder wheels, it certainly does the job but is acid based so needs plenty of rinsing.

For tar spots I've got some Mercedes tar spot remover, it must be over 15 years old so unsure if still available.

Petrol used carefully is good at removing tar spots.

Tardis for tar.

Bilt Hamber Autowheels is great, but I prefer to fully decontaminate the wheels and ceramic coat them. Cleaned regularly they only require shampoo and a range of wheel woolies, so no harsh chemicals damaging the coating.

So, some good weather this afternoon, and had an enquiry about my Volvo, so might punt it on. Needed a bit of a clean first though, and thought I'd try some more of that Garage Therapy Three CS on it. As well as finally getting some pics of the Focus, almost a week after application. The paint really does pop in the sunlight. It probably doesn't show up well in phone pictures though.

Next up? Tackle the big beast (The VW Caravelle).

Hi,

Thanks for trying GT products ;)

I guess being an OcUK forum member since 2003 its a little surreal seeing my companies products appear on the forum. If anyone has got any questions, I'll try and answer when I can.

Someone did mention tardis at work as well so I'll give that a shot, though tar spots are bottom of the list now, we were walking the dog today and parked next to a grey car came back to a grey line down my drivers side door. No car to be seen:mad::mad: I've managed to give it a scrub and got all the paint off, but looks like the door has broke the pain slightly, off the the local autobody shop tomorow see if it'll buff out of needs a respray

Small world, decon and wheel shampoo are on my shopping list at the moment.

How do you think decon fairs to 'de clogg' ceramic coatings that are in need of a bit of TLC?

Have you tried/used wheel shampoo in a foam lance? I've tried a few different wheel cleaners and some work better than others, but I like doing this as its really easy to cover a wheel in loads of foam to let dwell and then agitate with a brush etc.

Anybody use Meguiar's Ultimate Liquid Car Wax?
Looking for a decent wax to use & this seems to get good reviews online.

If not worth it, what are the recommended ones these days?

on the subject of protection, when my bottle of Autoglym Wax sealant runs out, should I buy another one or is there something better that will last longer on the car ?

thanks

I'm still unsure I see the value of using a pressure washer and snow-foam over the more traditional method. What is it that is making you want to change from the conventional hose rinse then washmit method?

If you have some decent protection underneath (I apply a coat of Sonax BSD every wash) it means that you can pressure wash the car and it be almost completely clean before you even touch it. It is a bit of a faff getting the pressure washer out and connecting everything up (sometimes I can't be bothered) but definitely worth it
