AMD Lose More Market Share To Nvidia - Now Only Got 18%

You can see exactly how much difference consoles made. In Q3, no consoles, AMD made 1.13 Billion from that section of their business. In Q4, 7.3 million console sales, AMD made 1.284 Billion.

You can't go year by year like you are tying to do and conclude that it's all down to consoles. The big bulk of that increase for the yearly total actually came from the release of Epyc processors, which boosted the Semi Custom revenue from 565 million in Q2 to 1.134 Billion in Q3.
It was not my intention to imply that the 176% increase was only down to the consoles.
With regards to why i picked year on year instead of comparing quarters. My assumption is that AMD has been producing console chips during Q3 (potentially even Q2 but that is more unlikely). I am not going to assume that AMD gets paid for the consoles chips when the consoles are released/sold to consumers. it is possible that Q3 results include some payment from Ms and Sony. Because of that I Used the previous years numbers rather than Q3.

No, you weren't trying to imply that the increase was only down to console sales, but you were trying to imply that the bulk of the increase was because of consoles.

Those consoles seem to have really helped boost those figures as it is up 176% year on year.

And it was an attempt by you to counter my post saying that consoles don't make as much money as GPU/CPU sales.

It seems more than likely that the big increase in Quarter 3 was due to the server side of things. They released new Epyc Processors, they had several big Data Centre and Super computer wins and had a big increase in Server market share in that Quarter. I can't say for definite that Sony and Microsoft didn't pay AMD something in Advance for the consoles, but I would highly doubt it.

Look, all I am trying to say is that people over estimate how much money AMD are making from Consoles. It's nice side earner for them, but, I would say it's much more important from a marketing side of things. It keeps their name out there and keeps them very relevant for developers.

Surely there isn't anybody here who genuinely thinks that AMD are making large profits on the sales of Console APUs?

How are Nvidia gaining market share, they only seem to be making a handful of cards

They're producing more than amd which is all they need to do right now, the amd high end is either non existent or stupidly priced, if you're in the UK you're SOL as amd still havn''t managed to figure out how to sell cards that way via their "UK store". Your only real options currently are to bend over and whistle dixie while your wallet gets gang banged on a third party amd or nvidia card, or try and get an nvidia FE when they drop (which means you have seconds to try and grab one for the most part).

I don't think NVidia are making as many GPU chips as people think, the article below is interesting reading.

What does "upstream yields" even mean? does that mean Samsung yields or?

My local store has plenty of 3060, 3070 and 3090 in stock, I could just go buy 20 GPU's if I wanted to. Its only the 3080 and 3060ti that are chronically out of stock, looks more like a high yield than a low yield issue to me (the 3080 and 3060ti are cutdown failure GA102 and GA103)
