I can't comment on your situation since I don't have any details. At the time I said that, what I said was absolutely true. There were around forty cards being held across a few lines. However a lot of time has passed since then, a lot has happened and we don't have infinite space to store stock that we cannot ship. I don't know what decision was made, why or when, I wasn't informed, obviously. I hadn't even realised that anything has changed until you said. I'm sorry that you are upset but there's nothing that anyone can do at this point in time.
I don't wish to cause offence, but a certain phrase involving elderly relatives and egg sucking springs to mind. Gibbo and I have about forty years combined experience in this industry. If you honestly believe that you know better after hearing that then I'm at a loss words.
I have gone over this before.
All of the brands were told the morning after the launch how many of their cards we'd sold. They were..and still are, kept up to date on weekly basis.
The brands that do ship direct, (generally Zotac, Inno3D, KFA on the Nvidia side) and like to work this way were given large POs BEFORE the launch. These are still not even close to being fulfilled. You've all seen Gibbo's update so you know how well this practice ACTUALLY works in real life.
The main brands, Asus, Gigabyte, MSI, don't accept large POs direct. THEY allocate stock to each reseller as it's produced and that stock is shipped to one of their local distributors who then tell us how many and at what price to raise the PO. Gigabyte and MSI do sometimes ship direct but, only from their EU hub, and again, only based on the stock that they've got on hand and allocated to us. Asus never ship direct, full stop.
B2B orders aren't subject to any protection so, even if we give them a PO days before launch at launch pricing, there's absolutely no chance that they'd be sticking to it. In fact, one of those examples that I gave before of a $400 increase in a 3090 price in the space of a month, was from a brand direct shipping against one of those "Day 1" POs

I’m the buyer for the GPUs.
Before 3080 was launched I sent purchase order to all our direct suppliers like Gigabyte, Zotac, Inno3D, KFA2 and some other brands for thousands of cards.
Other brands who ship via distributor were informed before launch we wanted thousands.
Upon launch all brands had our back order report and with brands that allowed we further increased our purchase orders.
However all brands from day have worked on an allocation basis so it makes zero difference if a PO was in place or not at the start because all stock a brand gets for a region is then allocated to the customers by the brands and whether I have a PO in for 10,000 or 1000 cards makes no difference is the brand has allocated just 5 units to us.
In short every brand knows the amount of back orders we have and they also know I want at least 10x that amount.
Simple fact is no brand can supply volume to any customer in the world. OcUk has done very well on a numbers front in the U.K. and compared to our other companies within the group which are based on countries like Germany, Spain, Australia, Hungary and Finland OcUK has had stock on par or better and all our group companies are see the same as us, supply is terrible and demand is off the scale.
The fact is supply is woeful and I suspect we will never fulfill the 3080 back orders and how we place orders would make zero difference to the amount of stock we have got so far.
There are no VGA cards available so there would be nothing to substitute for, so would be a refund.
Based on how numbers incoming have actually reduced means we’re looking at two years and I suspect the 3080 will be EOL before then.
Time will tell but we still have in total just shy of 5000 back orders on 3080 and deliveries are few and far apart and tend to be very small amounts. 3090 has gone very short too, 3060Ti is just as rare as 3080 and 3070 numbers have also reduced.

If we’re happy to wait can we wait? Got a full custom loop waiting for the card and I don’t even care if it is EOL before it arrives, 3080 is still going to be a beast at 1440p for many a moon.
At this point the 30 series is like a collector item, I need my millions of dollaroos from museums

As above, I think these cards will become a collectors item within a year launch
Going to guess stock is a lot less than you would expect this many months after launch right?
Also logically if NV/AMD can still sell out the same cards 2 years down the line what incentive is there to make new ones?

Been doing this for over twenty years now and never in my life have I experienced times like this for shortages.
The last time we had a mining craze we were able to keep our regular gaming cards in stock, people from here will remember what we did to support gamers and we were also able to get large volumes of cards ideal for mining like RX 470/480 at the time to cater for mining demand. In short I could go hunting for deals and stock, I would find the stock and be able to buy 100 and 1000's of cards, whilst still keeping in stock the latest gaming product at the time.
Now I can't even keep 1050Ti in stock, it is an absolute disaster. I think the biggest issue here is scalpers, they are roaming the internet, have scripts/bots setup to literally buy anything.
The fact some of our competitors are listing 3070's in stock at £1099 and selling out within minutes shows how crazy it is.
The miners are an issue, but the real issue is the scalpers I feel and the problem is right now there is so much pent up demand from every type of possible customer, at this rate onboard graphics will be booming again in no time.
I truly do hope Intel can come to this party and get to it this year with something that offers around 3060-3070 performance as we need another major player and one that has huge manufacturing capacity.
Demand is up in general for PC gaming components and system, but mining, scalpers and the hype around the new cards has sent it out of control, 2021 is a write off, it won't get any better, maybe even worse before it does and unless I can see signs of an improvement by June/July then this issue will go well into 2022.
If you have a 3080 on back order, of course you can wait, but if they never come or they go EOL then we shall of course simply refund the orders, if we were talking 200-300 back orders then we could allocate a member of staff to get the orders swapped, upgraded by speaking to customer, but as were talking around 5000, we simply have to admit we do not have the manpower or systems in place to sort it, so if the situation arises we have to take the easiest route which is issue a refund.

@Gibbo and @ScottiB, thank you for your efforts to support us all, especially getting to grips with the information side and setting up the queues.
I also appreciate your professionalism, dealing with the circular questions and seeing through the personal criticisms as pure frustration and sticking with us.
I put down the payment on 21st September so is almost irrelevant so will be staying with the queue until I either get the card, find another for a reasonable price or get cancelled.
In the meantime, OcUK will be my first port of call when needing any PC supplies.
I also appreciate your professionalism, dealing with the circular questions and seeing through the personal criticisms as pure frustration and sticking with us.

Hmmmm it makes you think if the new Intel/AMD APU's will be half-decent at mining....
Also on a morbid note, anyone else think that with the wait for cards being so long that a fairly good portion of people will actually *die* by the time their card comes in? We're talking a low low percentage out of 5000 of course, but that's gotta be 10/20 people easily
