3090 FTW3 Ultra Problems

Seems like my 3090 is hitting the power limit too early at around 380w. My 8pin powers 1,2,3 are 103.7, 115.5, 91.2, pcie power, 79.1. (This is on the 450 bios).

It looks like a power balance issue. What with this and also my memory temps sometimes spiking to over 140 degrees, I think it’s an rma. I didn’t pay extra to have less performance.

Do I have to accept a refurbished card? I mean is there no way I could ask for a refund and change to ASUS let’s say?

Can I ask why they would give you an option of a refurbished card? Surely it's either the choice of returning it to wherever you bought it from and either getting a refund/new card, or sending it to the manufacturer to see if it can be repaired

That’s what I’m hoping, however it seems that a lot of customers receive refurbished cards instead of a new card.

After this I really would prefer a different brand to be honest.

Have you checked with EVGA if there is a VBIOS fix for that issue ? That way saves you RMAing the card.

Yes it’s the XOC bios beta. I’m using this in the OC setting and have the normal bios on the normal setting.

This is from EVGA

Hi everyone,

We have an update regarding the EVGA GeForce RTX 3090 FTW3 ULTRA (24G-P5-3987-KR). If you have this specific card and are using the XOC BIOS BETA update and not seeing ideal overclocking results please send an email to [email protected] for more details. Please make sure your card is registered first, and if you have screenshots of your max wattage under load and list of applications/games used this will help as well when emailing.

Thanks,
EVGA

I was hoping resizable bar might fix the power balance issue, but I doubt it to be honest. The more I read, the more depressing it becomes. Seems to be loads on EVGA with this issue.

Just purchased from OcUK (this evening) to read on the EVGA forums its a HW+BIOS fix. So will the stock that OcUK got in tonight be the 'fixed' cards or the faulty (.. not faulty - just technically not operating at spec - at least based on the PCIE spec etc) cards?

I was one of the first batches, so mine was one of the older ones.

I know the newer ones will have the 500 bios on the OC switch, but they have just started in the US so I doubt it will be over here yet.

Thing is, if you don’t have the issue I wouldn’t worry, just keep an eye on it.

It’s a great card, but I’m changing to an ROG Strix OC after this. Mine had a couple of problems though.

Good luck, and try to just enjoy your new card.

Thanks Steve. Given its not dispatched yet I suppose I have options at this point tho. Im wondering if I should just cancel?

I wouldn’t mate. You might not be affected by this, not everyone is. You still have options even after you’ve had the card for a while.

Let me know how you get on.

I believe these were listed in error so it'll get cancelled anyway.

You are correct, it was cancelled in the early hours although the charge on my card is still 'pending' so not enough available balance to purchase something else (although its not like cards are plentiful to purchase :p)

Sorry to hear that. It’s not looking good for EVGA to be honest. When your 500w bios works better on other branded cards it makes you look a little silly.

If you get the chance, pick up a different brand. The UK are last on the list when it comes to support from EVGA.

RMA replacement is always "refurbished": All products returned to Original Purchasers or Second-Hand Purchasers from EVGA's RMA department are thoroughly tested recertified products. Replacement parts and/or Products may include new or refurbished parts or Products and are warranted only until the expiration of the original warranty period. Replacement parts and/or Products will meet the standard of performance and reliability of a new Product or part of the same model, however, such Products and/or parts may have small scratches, small dents, other cosmetic defects, or noticeable use.
