Sata ssd can be left lying anywhere in the case, have done it in the past cause i was to cheap to buy an adapter to slot it in a 3.5" bay.

I would not Velcro a Mech HDD (would for a SSD) as it will vibrate and may come loose, bungie cord it.

This or shoe lace it.

Or find(make) some holes to screw the hdd to the case where you want it.

HDDs do not like to move when operating it simply kills them.

You may also find that your chassis has some key hole fittings and rubber dampeners that you can use to fit it without a cage. for instance the Fractal Define C has a cage but it also has some key fittings under the cage in case you want to remove the cage to fit a watercooler.

Bungy cord is a easy option as others have mentioned. I have an old HDD strung up like this. No issues. Velcro for SSD.

I've got mine bunjee'd due to the noise of it. I do need a new one though

If you can find somewhere to screw it into then yes. Elsewise if you want to go getto you can use double sided tape (or something similar).

Don't just leave it fippin and flopping around unattached to the case though. One day you'll pick the PC up or move it and that drive will case damage to the delicate components.
