Battery vacuum (non robot) - Any good?

So vax v4 is 150 (refurb) and the Dyson v11 is 500. More than 3x more. It definitely feels like the Dyson is better. But not 3x

Feels like a no brainer.

Been vacuuming today with old floor vacuum. And basically had enough!
It certainly is if your budget is £150.

It's not that budget is 150. It's that the Dyson might be better. But it's not that much better.
I don't know, mines replaced my upright cleaner. I really didn't expect it to be so good, you can set it so high that you basically can't move it, I'm beyond impressed by the V11.

Thought I’d jump in on this thread as I’m in the market. Clearly the Dyson V11 is the best based on fairly objective reviews but I’m just not spending £600 on a vacuum cleaner. With a more sensible budget of £250-£300 what are peoples thoughts?

My ground floor is about 70% hard floors and upstairs is about 15% hard floors and it’s a medium sized 4 bed.

I’ve narrowed it down to:
Vax Blade 4 pet dual battery for £250 (I’m aware you can get a refurb with a single battery for £150 currently).

Shark IZ201UKTBD for £250

They both seem to clean well, have decent main brush heads and mini powered brush head.

The advantage of the Vax is the dual batteries meaning it lasts trice as long as the shark (up to 90 mins).

The shark has a couple of unique features, the ‘stick’ folds for easier storage and getting under furniture. The brush head is also better at picking up large objects on hard floors and has the anti hair wrap head (although the typical ‘cereal’ tests are a tad unrealistic). The shark is also very widely regarded and extra batteries can be had for £80 if needed.

So are the unique feature of the shark better than having an extra battery?

Am I right to discount Dyson at this price point? (V7?)

I've not found I needed an extra battery on the Shark 201, it's more than capable of covering our (average sized, at a guess) 3 bed semi in the 40 minutes time window. Cordless vacuums like these also suit themselves more readily to just picking it up and giving individual rooms a quick once over as it feels less of a chore than plugging in and dragging round a corded one. If you often do stuff like vacuum the entire house and then go straight out to do the cars as well though, that sort of usage might warrant another battery.

What I would say is depending on how soon you need one though, they seem to often crop up in Amazon sales - I picked up the 201 T with 'pet tool' for £199 last year.

We picked up a Dyson V10 on offer at £300 a couple months ago. Came from an old Vax corded so no other cordless comparison point, but very happy with the purchase.

We live in a 3 bed semi and can comfortably do the whole house on 1 charge on medium strength. Not sure how long it lasts on full power but it easily picks up everything on medium. Also used it in the car with the attachments and it did a great job.

The wall mount for charging is awesome, put it up in the understairs cupboard and it's super convenient to just grab and go when needed. Emptying the bin is also super easy and quick, and nothing gets stuck due to the way it pushes everything out.

Overall love it, and no real complaints.

@Kenai thanks that’s good to know, I have a original gtech air ram and I tend to do one big vac a week and then do individual rooms as needed in the week. Just mainly looking to upgrade now the batteries are very degraded and the tech has moved on a lot since that one launched.

I’ve checked the pricing on camel camel camel and it’s only been that price once on Black Friday and I could do with a replacement before then as the gtech can barely get round the house in one go now, I have to be very quick!

The twin battery version has been down to around £300 on Black Friday too.

@LiamJ what version of the v10 was that and when did you get it? Was it a refurb for that price?

It's definitely been in other sales, as it wasn't BF that I bought mine, I don't think camelcamelcamel necessarily picks up every type of sale Amazon do, but fair enough if you can't hang around waiting for an offer to appear.

Looks like the current sale has the corded Sharks on offer so probably not likely to see the cordless models this time around.

Camel camel camel doesn’t pick up prime day sales but I think it picks up deal of the day.

The shark direct website is bundling some extra accessories which may be useful in with the £250 price which you wouldn’t get on Amazon so it’s not the end of the world.

Have a dyson v10 something or other, constantly gets clogged up, constantly have to wash the filter, battery died within the first year, battery doesnt last that long. When it works its good but I wouldn't buy another Dyson off the back of this.

Friends have Sharks and have nothing be praise for them.

Tineco, I picked mine up from Amazon with 2 x batteries and docking station for it (batteries do maybe 15mins each on full blast) and can charge both at the same time

Theres various models but I went with the A11 Hero that has multiple attachments and various powered heads for it

I was (and still am) tempted by this I have to say.
Also, the shark is tempting.

Basically considering the same 3

The thing I'm not so keen with for vax is it seem the high power is too high! 9 mins!

Surely 3 settings would be better?

Got a Vax ONEPWR Blade 4 Pet Cordless

Just make it a whole lot easier. I'd maybe say get two batteries, all depends how often you hoover and at what setting.

The main downside is you need to take the battery off to charge it. Some say it's top heavy.and not as light as some, but I like it

Just watched a video of it.
Didn't realise there were 3 settings and o ly the max is the short time. But really, I could probably do downstairs in that time anyway.

I don't think the battery coming out is a bad thing. I don't think I have anywhere to wall mount near a socket!

Yeah so you have:
Normal, which just sucks. The roller just rolls passively.
Normal with brushes moving with a motor.
Then either extra strong suck with passive brushes
Or extra strong suck with motored brushes.

That last one though you can hardly move it :D

Do you find normal + motor or full power. Ore useful?

Yeah it looked like it was stuck to the floor in the vid!

It was a V10 Animal brand new from QVC, so I guess a limited offer. The Animal is the same as the Absolute minus one of the tools. I think it's a tool for hard floors but tbh mine picks up everything on hard floor without it. You can buy it separately either way.

There were some V10s for about £300 in the recent ebay promo I think, and with Dyson releasing the V15 I'd expect to see some more discounts on the V10 and V11 coming soon.

I think if you're coming from something crappy and corded, you'll be happy with any of the brands recommended here tbh. Every brand has people with good and bad experiences, as you can tell just from this thread!
