New PC build. Advice welcomed :)

Slight update. I haven't checked myself but I left the computer at my grandparent's house, as my grandad has a workbench.
He just text me saying that he was having a look at it, rebuild it all and it is now showing the BIOS. There is a debug LED still on, (don't know what one) but this is good process. Will have to go down tomorrow to see what is what.

Ah I kept the GPU out and just used the HDMI on the motherboard. Would that have never worked then?

Correct.

For what it's worth, it's only recently come to my attention; as a result of one Patriot Viper Steel stick failing after a year and subsequently seeing feedback from others; that some of the Viper kits are often not a good pairing with some AMD CPUs. Hold that in mind if you end up needing to choose what to send back and replace with something different.

That's good to know. To be honest I hadn't even checked that. Was just happy to be able to get the thing to boot up. Ended up having to take the battery out when jumping the board. Re-flashed it and everything seemed to work.

Going back into the BIOS there and it seems that the RAM is running at 2666MHz. There is 2x16GB Viper Steel sticks in it. What should it be running at 3600MHz?

Hey guys. Sorry just been so busy with work haven't had a chance to look at the computer. My new monitor came the other day so I have set the whole thing up now. I went into the Bios and brought the RAM up to 3600MHz. Everything was working but for some reason there was a load of ramdonly coloured pixels around the task bar. I have no idea why this would be but I went back into the Bios and brought the RAM down to 3400MHz, everything is working as it should. Well I say everything.... I downloaded my first game for this computer, the new COD and it keeps crashing haha.

Hmm , run Furmark and test GPU for artefacts. Faulty GPU memory distorts images sometimes.

COD Warzone?

Just ran Furmark, I don't know if it froze or I closed it my mistake lol. But it went for 5 minutes with no issues. I've never used a stress tester before.

Its the new COD Cold war. Runs for about 5 minutes then crashes. I checked the error code, updated everything and still no better.

It's an old FSP Group 800w one. Has a Bronze marker on it so must be ok right? lol

Could well be your problem tbh.

The PSU is the last thing you want to skimp on either way, depending on how old it is and which model you run the risk of damaging your components should it fail.

To be honest, it is the one thing that stands out in my mind. Everything else, bar the case is new and there is an old blue PSU in the mix lol. I was pretty skint after this build, having to wait for the next payslip before even buying a monitor, I figured the PSU would be good enough.

Without breaking the bank but at the same time doing what is needed, would you have any recommendations?

Something like the below should be ample:

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £79.99 (includes shipping: £0.00)

While it's a 650W hold in mind that your older 800W probably has degradation, coupled with an older design meaning it can't deliver all of it's power on the 12V rail, which is how modern PSU's like the above function. Then there's the various protections modern supplies have to make sure your shiny new build is kept safe.

It definitely something I should do. Just thinking, it is payday tomorrow. I could maybe stretch to a little over £100 for a new PSU. Would there be any point?

Hold in mind the chart only lists GPU power draw and not full system.

For your rig with a 3070 a good 650W should be absolutely fine and have room to spare. The only reason to go higher is if you think you might upgrade in the future to something that uses more power.

The PSU change might not flat out solve the problem you're having as a disclaimer, I suspect it might however, regardless it's something I'd highly recommend you do anyway so as not to put the rest of your parts at risk.

If you do want to pay more something such as the following:

Total: £112.99 (includes shipping: £0.00)

As for a PSU. I had been waiting for weeks for one to arrive. Just to go on and check I never actually ordered it haha. Think working flat out and lack of sleep is finally catching up with me!
