A can of paint spilled in my car...

...I've spent the last 6 hours cleaning. It was exhausting.

Now the seats are leather; the paint is no longer scrubbing off. I can't do anymore but for tomorrow:

- How can I get the remaining streaks of paint off the leather?
- Is there a detailer/ someone who does a home visit to sort these things?? I'm based in East London

It’s water based, so that’s good (as it would be 1000000x worse if it was oil based).

Water is what you need to use but being a car that’s not practicable. Can you access a steam cleaner? A damp cloth to wipe the worst of it then use a low setting on the leather and a higher setting on the carpets might do it.

Pay a professional and make it clear that you’ll accept that they may not get it all out. At least it takes the leg work off you and may get you 90% of the way there.

Yeah you have other options, try ringing more than one person.... Failing that keep scrubbing, and as someone else mentioned, most cars leather seats are not genuine leather anymore

I would second that. Steam cleaner and microfibre cloth to mop up. Good luck, I am genuinely feeling for you as I can imagine how I would feel if that happened to me.

Yeah I'd also be surprised if that's genuine leather it doesn't look it.

You want an extractor for the backs and footwell, you don't want to scrub the leather. Try getting an interior brush and a water based interior cleaner (basically 99% of them) and spray and agitate then remove with a damp microfibre

Ok we managed to get someone to come and try get the paint out of the carpet areas. But them, and two other companies won't touch the leather.

I've scrubbed for hours with no difference; is there anything else I can do? I'm trying to contact a leather specialist to see what they can do too for the leather.

Edit: I'll try and source a steamer. Thanks

The only other thing I can suggest is giving Judy Bass a call.

Real leather is still in cars (if you pay for it) the point is it's all given a plastic/resin coating for durability and dye sealing so when you clean it you're not cleaning leather, you're cleaning the plastic/resin that it's been coated with.

Products intended for use on real leather don't work on real leather that has a plastic/resin coating which is what cars use.

The couple of car cleaning websites I've checked say to ignore leather products and use general purpose cleaners, possibly diluted, for car leather.

Scrubbing the leather (particularly if it’s not genuine) is only going to destroy the finish.

If it doesn’t come out after a valet by a professional then you’ll need to suck it up and buy replacement seats.

Was the paint can not secured? You said the seats were down so I’m assuming you had a boot full.

I don't think that looks like real leather either. A lot of the time on modern cars if it's not the front seats or steering wheel it's fake.

Where can you buy parts for a new Audi A3? I tried scrubbing a section and after a while it does look better but theres loads to do.

Breakers yard. Don't make it a priority otherwise you'll pay through the nose. You can get a new carpet worst case too.
