2021 Season Chilli Growing

Hm, ply sheet with hole drilled? Although I imagine humidity will limit the year+ lifespan unless treated like a treated thing all over edges and all.
Otherwise evaporation in the nation!

Looking nice and healthy!

Here's mine today. Seeds sprouted around 25th Feb.

And the day they started in the hydro world, 21st March:

So they do appear to be surviving!

What medium do you guys grow in? Was thinking of using coco but would it dry out too quick in a polytunnel?

Looking to start some seeds tonight in root riot cubes in a prop on a heat mat. Hoping I'm not too late!

I grow in soil but I mix in some coir to aid with aeration.
You can use perlite but I find coir works just as well and is quite a bit cheaper for a big dehydrated and compressed block.
Going 100% coir means higher frequency watering and getting nutrients dialled in right as the coir is inert, generally a bit more tricky than soil I think.

@pooey any advice on coco as I think it shares some similarities with hydro...?

Not got a whole lot of experience with it but I do use a mix of coco coir, perlite and vermiculite for my outdoor plants. Adding in the vermiculite and perlite really seem to help with some moisture retention but I'm doing it all on a very small scale. @soundb0y - I recon you'll be OK with coco in a tunnel, maybe add something in to help with retention - I'd say test it out if you can and see how often you need to water

Somebody had donated some Chilli seeds (Jalepeno and Anaheims) at our Allotment, I'll give them a go tonight and see if i can get them to germinate. Anything is better than nothing.

Chilli wise, I got some Aji Red, Orange Habanero, and Chilli Bomb on the go, plus some beef tomatoes, and some seeds from a supermarket pack of cherry tomatoes that I fermented for a week then planted.

The supermarket cherry tomatoes are growing best of them all so far! Will get em all potted at the weekend.

Other half knocked the tray that I was germinating them in over a while back so I have no idea what most of the seedlings are, will just set them loose.

OK so I just browsed this thread and want to get started. Is there an OCUK guide to growing chillies?

Has anyone successfully grown Naga Jolokia? I love them.

Just harvested some ripe KS Lemon Starrburst and they're glorious! Lots of classic c.chinense aroma, nice fruity taste and decent (but not absurd) heat - comparable to scotch bonnet which isn't all that surprising since this cross is derived from scotch bonnet and bahamian goat peppers.

It is properly lemon yellow, the pics don't really do it justice. Gorgeous pods and a really nice plant, will grow again for sure!

The strain was bred by a dude called Khang Starr who's pretty active on youtube and various pepper communities, his whole schtick is that his seeds should never be sold, only gifted or traded, in that spirit I'll send some to whoever wants as long as my supply holds out :)

This is my largest Sugar Rush Peach Stripey and it's a dud in terms of what I was after, no stripes but orange pods - I know the breeder and he seems super excited about the orange variation so he wants seeds, the pods I've tried have almost zero heat too which is good since now my heat-intolerant partner has been able to sample the glorious Sugar Rush flavour, Chris Fowler the breeder is also excited about the potential for that so I should be getting some more guaranteed seeds in as trade.

Thankfully I don't think I used any pollen off this plant for any of my breeding projects, hoping that the other SRPS plants I have don't go the same way but that's what happens when you're growing new and potentially unstable genetics :D

I grew some Jay's Peach Ghost Scorpion which is a Naga x Trinidad Scorpion cross recently in my grow tent. I think you'd struggle to get a crop without an indoor setup now since they need a fairly long season to mature. Great excuse to buy a grow tent though!

Oh man, that might be jumping in at the deep end. I have windowsills and a raised garden bed, can I grow anything with them?

Your photos look amazing btw.

@pooey !! How long from babies to having babies for those yellow ones? I love the shape! How do you generally assess the strength, i.e. are you making a whole meal and assessing from that, or living dangerously and ramming a bit on your tongue? :D

My 4 plugs arrived today, and I now have them in 25L of nutrient solution, with the bubbler going!

Should be Aji Melon, Aji Orange Colorado, Numex Lemon, and Turkish Snake.
