Hey guys,

I have setup my new build tonight and have a question regarding FPS..

I just installed CS GO and booted up to test things out, I changed the res to 1080p medium detail..and though it played smooth it was only averaging around 150-180 fps??

I changed the res to 1400p and was around the same FPS? wtf?

does this really matter? if the game is ok?

Hmm

CSGO has been seen as CPU limited for a number of years now. Basically the RTX3060 can push frames above 400 if you let it, but you need a CPU that can cope.

That said, a 10400F should get about 300fps with 1% lows of near 200fps if you're playing on low @1080p.

I would expect a bit more juice than 180fps average, but again it shouldn't be the 3060 in this context - that's why if you change resolution you're seeing no change in FPS, because its not the GPU that's struggling.

Not just the CPU but the speed more then cores because csgo wont use it. Its a good game but its based on an ancient engine that wont use everything until the CPU is 5ghz or something silly. Even playing 1080p for csgo is considered high res and I've never heard of anyone playing 4k though its possible. I did used to render 4k and downscale for nice screenshots but even a 980ti can do this already.

300fps is the gold standard, this is double the normal 144hz so ideal. If you have a faster monitor then that maybe you need more but anyhow its the cpu mostly.

This is expected because you aren't GPU limited. It's the same in the main game I play, which is even older than CS. Personally I would run the monitor in native resolution.

You could run CS GO on a banana, it's all about the CPU

quick update:

my CPU is bottlenecking my GPU as the usage when gaming was up at 99%..and the GPU is barely breaking a sweat, around 30% in average usage!

but im not too bothered as I can upgrade my CPU down the line, 140+ frames when it runs super smooth anyway is fine for me.

its just basic stuff i bought, trying to stick to a budget, but i think that might have been the wrong approach :(

I dont know the timings, and its slow ram, 16gb 2666mhz

Depending on your motherboard (i.e. if it's a Z series), faster RAM at 3200 with better timings, around 16, might help your 10400 a little.

Worth doing some research - here's a video with info on timings vs performance:

thanks for all the help mate, i will look into that now.

the one thing i like about this CPU though is its 65W TDP, it stays really cool..albeit not quite as powerful!

try to get crucial ballistix kits if you're on a budget, they're fantastic kits

you can practically get 3000 cl15 ones and oc them casually to 3600 cl16 with 1.4v dram voltage lmao :)

or if you can spare you can directly get 3600 cl16 ones, theyre not expensive like samsung b-dies but then you can maybe push 4000+ mhz

buildzoid pushed 5000 mhz with all the 3000 cl15 samples he had though
