Has anyone watched their latest review, it is very interesting

now I have a Zotac Trimity 3090 with the Alphacool water block and I just checked the memory temps, 84deg which playing a game.

this seems high and was wondering if anyone else had checked their memory temps

Thats high... really high. I'm sitting around 60c while gaming on my vrms and 36-38c on the core. On 1080 radiator space, though i dont think thats gonna make a difference on vrm temps.

What were the pads like on your block? I remember my alphacool one not being so bad before i switched to Heatkiller V.

I dont have my Alphacool block anymore to test, the pads look identical to mine though and placement looks good.

Here's mine for comparison.

thanks, backplate heat seems to be a common problem and I should maybe take the card out and check the thermal pad indentations to see if I am getting proper contact.

what's interesting is the new EKWB active backplate

just had another look at the MP5works site seem to have added so new designs

That would be my first port of call too, it would be pretty clear and obvious. I remember when i took mine off the indentation was quite deep on each pad so i know there was good contact. Just can't say for sure if there pads themselves were any good though as there wasn't memory junction temp available yet on the current beta build of hwinfo.

I know I am probably talking to myself :)

I have a milling machine and have the idea of making my own finned backplate from a solid piece of aluminium plate with a fan attached. I need a project to keep my busy :)

re thermal pads, as there good ones and bad ones and if so which good ones to buy?

it's obvious doing a Google search there are a lot of people having cooling problems with RTX 3090 cards

Hey mate, I don’t have a 3090 myself.

I only know that when I repadded my 3080 I didn’t get good temperatures memory side the first time because I didn’t clean properly the modules and didn’t apply the pads directly against the modules.

I don’t have your card so I don’t want to confuse you, I was able to bring down the memory temps to 20C less on my second attempt though.

Just wanted to make sure you didn’t miss something obvious, that’s all ...

Also on my second attempt I cut the pads the size of the modules which is slightly wider than the sinks and it seemed to have worked better.

I used gelid extreme myself but I am using air cooling.

If you make one for the 3090FE I might be interested in buying one.

I don’t mine but anything that keeps temps lower without invalidating the warranty can only be a good thing.
