Hi people, I havent been around for a while after a new power supply and a new motherboard caused me to end up with no PC for over a month (amazing Christmas I had lol).

In summary I had upgraded an old EVGA PSU to an RM850x (for future proofing), and changed my X570 Taichi to a B550 Unify (I think its a much better board excluding PCIE4). This caused massive VRM coilwhine that you could hear across the room. My Taichi was fine with the 3rd PSU but not the Unify, so then I had 3 B550 sent to me and they all had the same issue therefore I returned them and kept the Taichi. I recently read that it became a global issue with those boards due to small thermal pads being used with the VRM. In the process I changed the AIO because all the building and taking apart somehow messed up the one I had so bought an Artic Liquid Freezer ll.

I used the PC for like 2 months just fine, but I was still upset I had to keep the Taichi board. Over this past weekend I decided to give Asus a try, since I had a Z270 Strix for a while in the past and it always worked flawlessly. I ended up buying a B550 XE, and it works like a charm. The BIOS is much better, it feels premium, and finally after almost 4 months my PC finally feels like my money was well spent. At some point during this whole situation I really considered selling everything and sticking to my son's PS5 lol

Just wanted to give everyone an update since I remember I spoke to a lot of people during Xmas and then dissapeared :/

Glad to know you conquered your issues.
Always pays off not to give up.
Coil whine is unfortunate but with a bit of perseverance can be resolved.

I had some coil whine with the Gigabyte Z490 Xtreme. Turns out it was coming from the RGB on the board. Once the RGB was switched off, no more.

As cool as RGB is and I do love it, I think overall RGB has become a cancer for computer components. From stories of EMI/RFI and coil whine.
