Somewhere in the middle.
Im looking for a 12x10 workshop / shed.

Something similar to this

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12X10-SH...-/224121049163?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286

Id considered trying to make my own but due to time and the currently high costs of timber anyway I've accepted Ill buy a solid one from somewhere and if I decide to insulate or "upgrade" it in the future it shouldn't be a problem.

It will store all of my tools and give me somewhere to maintain my bike.

Does anyone have any recommendations or experience to share.

Thanks.

We used these guys

You basically design your own shed. They allowed us to swap and change what we like from three different shed that they had on show.

We liked the particular size on one, the roof on another and the door on a third, they priced it up and were very reasonable.

In regards to a tip, a lockable door (with a key) none of this having to use a padlock nonsense.

Roof we went for a pent style for extra height at the front or back, apex roofs all the height is down the middle.

Downside of the pent roof is you want it sloping front to back if you want to make the most of the extra height but the clearance from the roof to the top of the door means you can’t fit a gutter if you wish to direct or collect rainwater.

Thanks for the informative post. Ill definitely take on board the lockable door bit. The shed is going to be quite a way down the garden and I will likely get a water butt setup.

Is the construction of yours really solid?

Yes if compared to your average B&Q or Homebase shed. I went for the tongue and groove very much like the one you linked to on eBay with a tongue and groove roof and floor too. I went for a more solid door though with a key lock and upgraded (thicker felt) roof.

I did paint it the day it arrived and three years on it’s as good as new

Another thing to look out for is make sure the roof is at least 12mm thick - My summer house is 11mm and roofing felt nails are to long and they used staples to hold felt down - It leaked down side of the staples so refelted on top with thick felt and tar and roof nails were ok.
My summerhouse is also flat roof and I asked them to double up the centre cross piece. The span on mine is 9ft.

I know you are having a shed but it's same thing really

There’s quite a few ideas in this thread over on Pistonheads.

Only problem you might have is getting one delivered at the moment. Seems quite a lot have lead times of months unfortunately.

I assembled a Keter one a couple of years ago and it’s still going strong. Going to have to leave it behind when I move soon which is a shame.

I was after something similar, with the Mrs also wanting a gym/garden room.
After pricing things up and looking around, we found the best option was for a local builder to do it. One large building divided in two, should be getting built next month.
For the one we wanted, it's a general bread and butter job for him and have seen examples which we are happy with.
Don't know of you've considered quotes from local builders to get the exact specs you want.

I doubt it will be better than a tuin especially if you want something that is 70mm thick then when you add insulation will retain heat like a normal home.

TUIN stuff if like Lego and built in a day. Yours the majority of the cost will be labour and made using cheaper materials as a result albeit they may give a nicer appearance and finish whereas the tuin is bare and you need to do the insulation and finish yourself.

Yeah, I'd seen them, our neighbour has something very similar and has had it for a good few years and they do look nice and solid.
Like-for-like with the size and style we wanted (would be bespoke) this type was a fair bit more than what we wanted to spend. If I remember to, I'll try and post some pics of the job when done.
