while watching the full nerd from pcworld (not that one) they commented on a nvidia road map from gtc, which had the ampere next (the next version of ampere) releasing in 2022. so start saving now i guess, pre orders opening soon no doubt :P

maybe all of last octobers pre orders will have been delivered by then :D

Yeah they come out every 2 years. After that the next will be released in 2024, then 2026, 2028 etc

il be honest with whats happened with the current gen i wasnt expecting anything until 2023. so for them to still have them listed for next year on a road map was a bit of a surprise.

would be easier to find a unicorn doing a jig on a choclate fountain, than get any decent gpu, mining is here for a long time yet, plus chip shortages dont help, not enough Fabs anyway, too late to start builing fabs all over the place. its useless abandon ship everyone to the console train:D:D;)

Its every two years usually, but also keep in mind, they are not talking about just gaming GPUs, rather the architecture as a whole. So 2022 may very well be when we see datacentre products with Ampere's replacement in. It was only months after the first Datacentre products went out (may) that we saw gaming stuff in September. Add in this is GTC geared more towards that segment anyways, could be Datacentre products see a replacement in 2022 but the gaming stuff may very well go into 2023.

yeah possibly could be this. as for them planning years in advance who knows what real world things will slow them down for 6 months or so to stretch out the sales because why not if people are buying you're old stock for silly prices.

AMD are doing just over 1 year cycles now and have already caught up with nvidia in raster so I don't think nvidia can stay on a 2 year cycle without falling behind.

What was the gap between 5700xt and 6800xt cards ? , was it really 1 year if so i would think RDNA 3 will be a big threat to NVIDIA if its due this year.

It was about 16 months between RDNA 1 > 2 but then AMD had a lot to prepare for last year what with the 2 new consoles zen 3 and Gpus all being released around the same time + the 7nm supply constraints so this time there should be a lot less to focus on.

Going by the roadmap RDNA 3 is due at the end of 2021 and supposedly comes with a 50% improvement per watt so should give them a healthy lead if they stay on the same power target as the current line up, maybe it will be pushed back a bit but then again AMD have delivered on schedule with their roadmaps thus far.

I wonder if all day one orders for 3000 series cards will be met by then?.

judging by how some models, like the gaming x trio were straight up cancelled and customers refunded, I guess that could happen. I mean, nvidia won't care - they sell their GPU die to the AIB as soon as they get them in stock from Samsung, it's the AIB's problem to turn that die into a work GPU and sell it to a retailer who sells to a customer - any pre orders stop at the AIB, don't affect Nvidia so a backlog of open orders wouldn't stop Nvidia from launching a new product
