Evening all. So we recently had a fence put up and it needs painting. Had another part of the fence done last year and it was a ball ache to paint. I've been looking into getting it done with a sprayer. We have a few tins of paint left over but I'm not sure if a sprayer needs a certain type of paint?

Also been looking at this from Screwfix

Anyone have any experience with it or can recommend another one. Reasonable priced. Thanks

I have that and used it last week. It did a good job of the fence but it is still quite slow. It is nothing like a proper spray gun. The real problem was the amount of paint that ended up on the ground. It is messy.

In short, easier than a brush but far from perfect.

Don't do it in even the slightest bit of wind would be my only advice. They are great and definitely make life easier but I did manage to cover a car in fence paint as I forgot it was over the other side of the fence!

Been looking at that one as well mate. Can I ask how big your fence is and what paint did you use in the gun?

18 panells plus a gate. Used the fencelife plus paint. Didnt mask up just sprayed in place and jetwashed the overspray off later, its really controllable and i just changed the nozzle to vertical against the posts and horizontal at the bottom.

Ignoring all the kids stuff i got a really nice finish imo

Luckily the fence runs up the middle of our garden so should be safe from spraying anyones car (hopefully)

Be mindful of neighbours. Ex neighbour of mine did his and covered a patio, children’s toys and artificial grass with fine paint and ruined a lot of stuff. It may clean off a real car but it won’t clean off a lot of things.

If possible I would slide panels out, lie them on a tarp and spray them. If spraying in situ then you when you spray the top area maybe hold a large sheet of cardboard behind it to stop spraying neighbours plants etc.

Good advice, if you can easily pull out the panels I'd do this. It does get absolutely everywhere, but is massively quicker.

Done many a fence - most of the points above are covered.

Using sprayer - Way quicker but don't do it if there is a breath of wind....Can get messy and depending on the gun/paint, can clog up/too thin at times.
Using brush - slower, but less mess, less likely to require multiple coats

My only tips would be
Hold it closer than they say and move it quickly, less wind impact
Keep pumping it up, I do it like every 45 seconds, keeping high pressure in the cannister really helps and as its more consistent once you get the perfect distance and speed sorted you just go

I've never managed to get spray on anything other than when I missed that a knot was gone and sprayed through the hole, oops
I've got far more drips on things before when using a brush personally

Allow plenty of time for dismantling and cleaning.

Oh and unless you want comedy brown (in my case) freckles remember to release the pressure before you open the canister, yep been there got the Tshirt
