Hello,

I am between those 2 psu's for the said setup

Strix x570 F-gaming
Strix RTX 3090
Ryzen 7 5800x

AND

I know the power is enough for it, my question is what would you advise me to minimise chances of the card's coil whine, Im not sure if more power means more whine or the opposite.

Thanks in advance

A couple of years ago i saved £40 by getting a 550W over a 850W
And today i am using a different power supply
Moral of the story: was it really cheaper?

It is yes, it is cheaper and that's £30 that can go into a storage upgrade.

I'd say the likelyhood of ever needing 1000W is low for consumer builds is very low. Going from 550 to 850 is a completely different story, as 850W is the headroom choice for very high end builds.

From what I've seen, the only good reason to go above 850W would be extreme overclocking, trying to power a bunch of disks ontop of hardware, or a multi socket or multi GPU setup. Given that most people arn't running with Liquid Nitrogen or building AI servers I very much doubt there will ever be any need to go higher.

Are are giving advice to save £30 to someone that spent £2500 on a graphic card ?
His build does not sound like a budget one
And you advise a 1KW PSU as well
Willie the question about coil whine, i am not aware if the psu helps or not
But the PSU will wine as well to some extent

Yes.

I'm not. 1000W PSU's aren't necessary for a consumer hardware build that doesn't involve SLI or sub ambient cooling.
What I personally suggest if you have the budget is going with a higher efficiency 850W PSU if you have the budget to burn.

You shouldn't need more than 850W so of the two the Asus would be my choice, due to it being cheaper.

Personally would go for something like:

If you can afford the 1000W, a platinum rated PSU will provide higher efficiency and build quality.

I place myself in someone's shoes and advice based on the circumstances
I presume that when someone is asking for advice they are asking for an opinion
Your advice above is confusing me
Should he settle for the cheaper PSU or burn some cash and get a 1KW platinum PSU?
As stated i was for getting the bigger one

In m experience it's often unclear who the oem is or what corners have been cut with branded PSUs, so I'd look at Super Flower or Seasonic. It sounds like budget isn't an issue, so go with whichever platinum 850w takes your fancy.

This should be more than sufficient but to be sure and future proof, I would recommend 1000W
