Has anyone changed their mind about the Epic store, after all the free games?

I've been using the EPIC launcher for 2-3 years now, I really like all the free games and have no problem with using multiple launchers to play games with, providing they do not interfere with gaming or use background resources.

This cannot be said for the Ubisoft launcher, which requires specific settings to be enabled for some games to work at all, and many Ubisoft games require Battle eye software to run in the background (anti cheat).

Is anyone still unwilling to use the Epic store, at all? If so, do you use Steam a lot / solely to play games with?

If i were to play games a lot i'd probably give it a go. I try to get all my games through GOG for the offline installers, but i own a lot of music and movies on physical format too, so that probably gives some idea on my stance.

Still, i do really like Steam for it's discussion boards, workshop, reviews, etc. I saw SW Battlefront was on sale super cheap, but it requires EA rubbish so i moved along. It's a game i wouldn't mind having a quick blast on, but given the new ones are a shadow of their former selves, i'm just not that bothered. If Epic had a game i really really wanted to play i'd download it, so free or not, makes no difference to me.

So long as it has the basic functions, like Search and Wishlist, they're all about as good as each other.
Origin is great, but there's almost nothing on there I want to play. Uplay even more so.

Steam has a load of extras, like the Friend chat stuff and all the community things, but so much of it is just fluff and guff, like teh badges and gems and things... I'm sure it's fine for the social media kids, but I just want to play the flippin' games. Most of it is just in-app versions of internet forums anyway and I've learned more about games from people here than any community content on Steam.

I like epic just as much as Steam, they are both just as good for me. I do like Steam forums though they always handy. I find epic is the easiest one to use.

I still hate origin because it keeps having sign issues telling me my password is wrong and then on top of that my reset link never gets sent so have to spend like 2hours on web chat just to get a new password. Even games like need for speed I have on Steam take 5: attempts to boot because origin keeps popping up saying I don't own the game.

Also Microsoft store/Xbox app still has issues with downloading games, it really doesn't like downloads being paused while you do something else the come back to them, normally ends up with 100gb download failing and having to start from scratch. Also games you delete doesn't always give you the disk space back and requires a lot of messing about or reinstall windows to get back the space.

Yes, the GOG game setup process is excellent, there are no restrictions on how many machines you install games on and no software required to actually run games.

My only real criticism of the Epic launcher, is that there is still no way to quick launch games by right clicking the epic icon in the notification area. To me this seems like a deliberate decision to encourage people to look at the sales / store before they launch a game, as something like this should be easy to implement.

I haven't tried the GOG galaxy 2.0 integration with Epic games, it might offer a better experience if quick launching is easier, but I wonder how it handles updates for Epic games?

Lots of people like myself are still unwilling to use the Epic store at all. In fact I am more pushed away from Epic now then at the start as them paying to make games exclusive to Epic has completely put me off using the store. Free games has not made me change my mind.

It's less annoying than Ubisoft. I don't seem to lose login details for it, whereas Ubisoft is often doing so. My most hated is Origin. Not that I play any EA games but sometimes I might want to play Rogue Squadron or whatever it's called.

Oh well. More free games for the rest of us.

Even if you don't wanna use the launcher, you can still claim games through the Epic store website if you make an account, with no launcher installed. easy decision from this perspective, you won't miss out later on claimed free games if you change your mind.

One thing that might convince hold outs, is launching games directly through chrome / web browser... Epic still gets paid the same amount so it's a win-win. They'd need to figure out a way to download and install games entirely through the browser though, so maybe it's not feasible.

One of the reasons I'm glad I went for 32GB, when I built my system. On top of multiple 'launchers', Steam, Epic, GOG etc etc,
I 'had to' install Corsair iCue yesterday, to enable 7.1 on a new headset. I think it was using >250 MB when I checked!

LMAO So mad.

While I do get the free games on the Epic store (for the most part) I haven't played a single one of them, mostly because I use Linux as my daily driver and, unlike Steam, it's a faff trying to get the games to work. I'm sure some of them do probably work quite well on Wine/Lutris but Steam is so much better and has a native Linux client.

Nope, happy to use them then, happy to use them now, my only disappointment is the lack of £10 vouchers in the last few sales :D

I wonder if they will stop giving out free games eventually? Like, if they somehow start to rival steam in user count and sales.

I think they are confirmed for this year, at least
