Hi Guys,

Not completely new to watercooling, I have just completed a build with a custom loop, comprising, 1X 360 Rad + 3 Fans, EK Res, bay mounted, 1x 120 Rad + fan all cooling the 5800X via an EK Velocity CPU block.

I have used Arctic silver 5 for thermal paste!

The order of the loop is, Res to 360, 360 to CPU (inlet), CPU (outlet) to 120 Rad, 120 Rad to RES.

Whilst gaming I'm hitting Max temps of 74 C, The processor is hitting 4900Mhz on all cores.

I'm pleased with the performance, but would have liked to have kept the temps in the high 60's,

what do you think of my results? do they seem about right?

I have read that the Ryzen CPU's run quite hot and this seems to be the case, Any thoughts Guys?

Just done some digging around in the bios, I've set an undervolt for the CPU and this has brought the temps down to a Max of 60 C.

Hadn't thought about undervolting until I watched a few youtube vids recommending it, fair do's, a massive improvement!

I think everyone with a 5800 is finding these wild temps. Mine shoots up to 70+ degrees just booting into windows with the coolant temps in my AIO still at ambient. At first I tried different thermal pastes, re-seating. However I think it's just how these chips are - with XMP enabled they ramp up in voltage very quickly to meet the available cooling headroom.

Under systained load, the chip temps stay mid 70s. However it can burst from 30 to 70 in a couple of seconds.

Looking forward to seeing if someone is able to delid one and if that makes a significan difference.

Thanks Bug,
I have set an under volt for the cpu in the bios, at idle I have 49-50 C, during gaming cpu peaks at 62 C.
I’m happy enough with this, seems at default settings the voltage is a little high.
Considering the cooling I have the idle is still a bit baffling but I guess it is what it is!

I’m running an overclocked 9900k and a 3080 in my loop and get pretty much the same temps you after you undervolted it.

Well done for figuring it out.

Running my 5950x stock with a Galahad 360mm AIO with swapped SL120 Uni fans and my CPU will always hit 90’C at some point in the evening when in playing games, even relatively untaxing ones like Apex Legends and Mass Effect Legendary edition. The temps always come down once the AIO pump catches up and it sits low to mid 80’s pretty regularly.
