The damn alarm on the house keeps randomly going off.

Sometimes it will go off 3 times in one night. Other times it won't go off for months.
I'm dreading going away and it just going off in the night peeing off the neighbours.
I never use it, they are pointless things.

How do I disconnect this thing permanently?

If I was your neighbour, I'd had already **** in your letterbox.

3 times in a night, and your ok with this? Get someone out to fix it.

Switch off mains power, disconnect battery in the panel. The external bell may have a battery too which means it'll ring if disconnected.

I think I have to do something about the box as that's the sound location right?
I'm wondering if I need a ladder and some ear plugs. But no idea if I can even get in this box

Get whomever installed it out to fix it.

It depends on the alarm but yes generally you have a loud sounder in the box on the wall outside, which will have some kind of tamper protection as in cutting power or removing the lid will trigger it.

Get up the ladder with a screwdriver and a pair of wire cutters and you'll have it silenced in no time!

My Dad was an alarm engineer for many years and I picked up a lot going out on call with him as a kid :D

I'd say it's close to obvious that OP didn't get it installed as he clearly doesn't want it, therefore likely he doesn't know who installed it. An assumption to be sure, but I'm going with it :p

If you're not able to Google your way out of this one using brand/model names then you should just pay someone to do whatever work it is you need doing.

Yes.
Bought house in 2020.system may be as old as the house.

Info is patchy on Google.
Only sure fire way seems to be to disconnect the alarm in the bell box.

The model and make might be helpful information?

Usually you open the alarm box on the outside of the house and turn it off with the internal switch. For the controller box on the inside, you disconnect the power and any battery backup.

If it's any kind of smart alarm, you can do the same just by connecting with the relevant app and turning it off.

True, but I was hoping the alarm box might advertise which company it belonged to if Chubb/ADL or even a local alarm company.

Failing that, I’m sure the OP’s local locksmith/security company could figure it out for a sensible fee.

My parents had one in the house they moved into, it was probably 15+ years old when they bought it and it was useless. They were told the code from the previous owner so could un-arm the system on the control panel and then power it down. There's usually a battery in there so if the power is cut it'll keep alarming so worth removing that.

When they changed some carpets there were pressure pads installed under the windows under the carpet which had pretty much disintegrated into dust so no wonder the alarm would go crazy at random intervals, depends where you live as to if its worth it but personally i wouldn't want an alarm system, better off with some decent cctv cameras i'd have thought. I've only ever heard people have issues with their alarms, never heard a 'good news' story from someone with one fitted.

Check your insurance before you disable it as you might invalidate it. Insurance companies are about 50 years behind the times in requiring an alarm which no one takes any notice of, and they don't make any allowance for real important security issues such as CCTV smoke bombs, video door bells etc.

Like most tradesmen alarm installers want to rip a job off in the shortest time get the money and get home without a care for the quality of the work. PIR detectors are supposed to be at the far corner of the room looking at the internal door, but this means the longest cable run possible so they put them at the nearest corner often looking at the window where the sun sets them off!
In this situation you might change the PIRs for dual tech ones which are radar and PIR and require both to trigger before sounding an alarm. You should be able to pick these up reasonably cheaply (£15) and if you can identify which one is the culprit you will only have to do it once.

So I don't know the model.
It's got watchdog on the bell box
I can't find the control box. Maybe it's in the loft? Which does not have easy access!

There is a control panel downstairs where you put the code. (veritas 8c)

So I believe I'm missing the control box.

I didn't put that we have an alarm on the insurance as I knew I'd never use it.
So it's only going off from a fault

No idea of the model. No idea of the components. And haven't found the control box

Sounds like I need to find this alarm box

This is what i call the control panel.
That is the model I have
I'm guessing this isn't the control box

If that's what you have, that's the control box as well as the keypad. Keypads that are just keypads are much smaller than that.
