Trading the stockmarket (NO Referrals)

Well, a bit late really...but a tech-focused etf like SMT is probably not a bad bet.

Incidentally, today I learned that SMT has a pretty big chunk of SpaceX stock. Think I may just keep increasing my holdings there for a few months. The managers seem to be pretty on the ball....

Well Tesla beat earnings, increased revenue by over 70% and sold 100% more vehicles. Profited from BTC, and saw a 40% increase in regulatory credits. The company looks in good shape. Will be interesting to see how they will compete without the credits from GM, Ford, VW etc.. in the future.

Fully expecting MSFT to completely smash it later this afternoon.

How come Tesla down 5% when yesterday’s announcements seemed positive all round?

That always happens with earnings. Apple hit $100bn quarter last quarter and were down. Amazon smashed it. etc.. The play is in the run up to earnings. Though if you're in it for a long term hold it makes no odds.

MSFT for example 19% up on the year. Azure services grew 50% faster than expected. Price is down 3%. As I say it's typical of earnings.

Edit: Alphabet smashed up too. Up 5% in pre-market. $26.29 per share vs. $15.82 per share expected. That's going to bode well for Facebook tomorrow.

AMD also smashed it "Revenue grew 93 percent while net income and EPS tripled year-over-year"

I think earnings make up disappointed. It was boosted by Carbon offsetting credit and Bitcoin sales vs a reflection on the strength of the vehicle sales P&L. Ultimately the headlines looked good but the underlying performance is behind expectations,

Remember tesla is priced as the top car company in the world (or it was) for that to happen it's probably going to have to exceed expectations for a long time. If anything its probably slipping back from that valuation.

Got a feeling Facebook is going to smash the other main tech stocks one day share price gain for this set of results

Todays investor meeting - gone through the slides and at 18:31 Mins in there is slide showing graphs regarding combination studies.
In box 3 in bottom left hand corner it states Quote : SRA 737/LDG+ICB is the most effective regimen
. 10/10 (100%) regressions at the end of treatment (Day 21)
. 8/10 (80%) sustained complete responses / cures at day 60
. Well tolerated no weight loss. Unquote.
SRA 737 should see the SP massively rerate alone
As John Reader has said it could potentially treat up to 50 percent of all solid tumours when used in combo. There are approx near 20 Types of solid Tumour cancers that include the big killers, Lung Liver Pancreatic Ovarian Prostate

Bear in mind the current UKRI research grant for seeing if TYK2 will help with the cytokine storm for covid is in development, and from this morning Dr J Reader "hopes and expects further grant assistance re Covid".
Dr John also displaying barely suppressed excitement about the so-called secret patent which "the whole world will hear about in due course"
Its a sleeping giant.

Woke up too late (GMT -7) to make the most of AMDs gains. Still a few percent, but ended up leaving some profit on the table. Got the 5% on Google though. I own some MSFT but like APPL is pretty much a permanent hold for me so no swing trading there.

Will probably still hold Facebook into tomorrow. So far every advertising platform has done well in terms of earnings. The potential issue is growth in user numbers which is what saw Pinterest fall 9%. It's a bit daft of obviously growth can't continue for ever, especially for FB which already has 2.8bn active users.

Shame there aren't more UK firms allowing after-hours trading like the US firms are.

I don't understand why trading can't just be 24hr as it's all digital now anyway isn't it ?

The crypto exchanges manage it pretty well

I quite enjoy having the weekend to relax and not think about new/different investments when the markets are closed....

Made some good gains on 888 today with earnings release. Need to start looking into some funds as I want to diversify from just holding individual securities + SMT. Does anyone have a good site for fund info/recommendation etc.?
