*** NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 3080 SERIES STOCK SITUATION - NO COMPETITOR DISCUSSION ***

the website will probably die through traffic surge whether we have cards live or not. The 3080 launch brought the website to its knees twenty minutes before the launch time.

Probably worth asking your hosting provider to temporarily increase capacity to double what you saw last time, assuming you're not running it in house - either that or consider going text only on the GPU pages.

And yet, question is, would they really care about some uproar? There's already huge uproar because of them being unavailable - would replacing fully 3080 with Ti change anything? It would change things for Nvidia - these are identical chips that they likely get huge majority of in production and they can charge much more for. 3080 might only get the small number of really failed chips, that didn't make 3090 nor 3080Ti. Enough to say they didn't discontinue them but you won't see any in stock anyway.

All in all, I'm sure Nvidia and AIB want to milk this market situation as much as they can for as long as they can, so it makes no sense for them to sell lots of "cheap" 3080 as they know people will buy all 3080Ti as is. When finally market normalise then they might put more 3080 back to the market - not anytime soon.
I was meaning if it had been officially announced as the OP claimed, there would have been more chatter. I believe the OP didn't realise Nvidia are releasing a mining nerfed version of the 3080, supposedly this month, meaning the old version will be EOL.

All that, and the boss still won't invest in the neccessary IT? This market is as good as it gets. Fix the roof while the sun is shining OCUK! :)
Obviously you've not read many of posts in this segment with regards our IT investment.

we're not running it in house but the current provider is already at capacity

With the site using Shopware, I'd imagine the bottlenecks are similar to the systems I develop for (WooCommerce/Magento/OpenCart). Basically whatever protection CloudFlare employs, coupled with Apache's max concurrent requests setup, what sessions/caching system is selected, and how powerful the server is (to name a few points). There is actually only so far you can get with those measures before having to resort to more drastic optimisations like mirroring, or decoupling the rendering process for the pages from the database. The suggestion of reducing how much is downloaded per user is sound on paper, but in practice it wouldn't have an as bigger impact as people might think.

I know I am being nosey, but I'd love to find out a bit more how the server is setup, and weather memcache or redis is used.

Love all the backseat drivers in this thread....

I work in I.T.
It’s not a technical problem - if your provider has run out of capacity and has no good plan as to how to fix it, you need to find someone else to host, ideally using a scalable cloud platform.
But this would require investment, and a smallish company like OCUk might struggle to fund that.

Even if they're able to afford it, is it really worth the investment? Nonetheless, If I recall correctly they've been working on upgrades behind the scenes for a while now.

Do we have any updates at all?

As no emails last week, nothing in the 30XX series update thread since the 22nd April. After waiting 8 months and now being in the top 5 for my card and with the 3080TI right around the corner I find this total lack of information disturbing as well as very unprofessional. Its almost like you know the TI is coming out so you have stopped trying to get the 3080's (yes i know the situation atm hence the 8 month wait) but you where still getting cards in weekly.

Gibbo has given an overview of the situation.

Some board partners have mentioned May and told me it will be even worse than April, all I can say is considering we had so little in April means that in May must mean we will see next to nothing on 3080.

We are been informed that May shall be worse, to be frank it can't get much worse as that will put us at zero incoming stock more or less.

It's quite noticable there's virtually no supply in the channel at even nosebleed prices.

I'm guessing shipments are on hold till after the 'gen2' LHR versions are baked and the Ti is 'released' end of May/mid June and we can all rejoice at the bountiful flood of GPUs at MSRP {dies laughing} ... meh! :(

I cancelled my pre order back in November after moving about 20 positions in 2 months, sad to see they have only moved about 100 or so out of the 1200 back orders they had in 6 more months, I got my card via an alternative website back in November, did not pay over the odds, actually worked out cheaper than Overclockers

How they can still get away with this is crazy, by the year mark they will not have fulfilled pre orders at this rate and would have made a HUGE profit off the interest from the pre order money they had alone.

Wow not been on for a while and still madness so clad I cancelled brought a new 2080ti and in the step up queue for the 3090

the world has truly gone mad I ordered a fiesta mk8 st mid November and received 1st feb

if still in the que ordered 16 Oct I’d still be waiting for the non oc ASU’s 3080
