Hi all,

I recently bought a 2016 A4 as a nice upgrade to my previous car. 44k on the clock.

Long story short, there was no proof of first service being done (Although it is an 'OU' plate, so most likely management car for 2 years, which may have been serviced in house), although the second owner had a proper Audi full service done to the car last year. Also, when I purchased the car, it had another service done to it by the selling garage (new filters, plugs, oil change etc.).

So I know this can't be sold on as having a FSH due to no first service, what is the best way to go about the future services? I aim to stick to the estimated points to do the services (think for me it will be every 18k/2 years), but is it worth continuing sticking with the Audi dealer, or at this point would it be better to get it done at a independent that specialises in German cars, at a more affordable price?

There is no physical service book with these Audis, it's all online, but I have read that independents also have the choice to upload it to Audi's system, so this could also be an option.

Very strange that a 2016 Audi didn't get an official first service. Is there no record of the service from Audi? Have you contacted your local dealer and asked for a service history check? If no service history then I would just get it done by an independent.

Much "lesser of a car" but had the same dilemma on my Ibiza. Decided that by the time I come to sell it, it'll be worth very little anyway. Independent came up about £200 cheaper (bonkers I know) for a major service.

This is why I initially didn't take the car, but dealer has an amazing reputation from reviews and they offered me money off plus more warranty etc. So it made me comfortable.

But essentially they have no record in the Audi system or on paper of the first service, although it can be common with management/fleet vehicles to get it done by the financing company internally, so it may have been the case.

Thats why my line of thinking is that, if its already lost that value of not having a FSH, is it really worth shelling out £400+ for an Audi service, when an independent would most likely do similar for half the price?

Service records for audi are kept electronically and are available through the 'MyAudi' app or from a dealership. As far as service schedules are concerned they are either on a flexible service, up to 18,600 miles or two years, which ever comes sooner. Some independent audi specialists can access this if they have the correct equipment. If you tend to mainly drive on motorways and main roads. Or a fixed yearly service, fixed is right for low-mileage drivers who do more city and local driving...

VTS was the VAG group trying to keep fleet operators happy by offering potentially longer service intervals and fewer services for them to take care of, T/D is preferable if you intend to keep it long term. Once warranty expires MDSH tends to get progressively more pointless as time goes by. You’ll usually pay significantly more for it as an owner and unless we’re talking auto exotica/high end, it’s generally only a nice to have as a purchaser, especially on a car that is potentially a decade old by the time you sell it. Any potential purchaser will likely be equally happy with a folder with invoices from reputable garages in date order showing the service schedule has been adhered to and any additional work carried out.
