Resident Evil 8 performance

it's not min, it's the average fps for 4k, 1440p and 1080p respectively

so essentialy, 3070 hard drops to 40 fps average from 80s due to vram

min fps is around 10-15 in my tests. it's really horrible to play overall, since it constantly swaps data with ram

eol tbh
You are correct, my bad.

No but the game lets you choose the Texture quality and this lowers VRAM usage. There's also the option to reduce the resolution scaling below 1, so that would help also.
Sadly that setting seems like just there to annoy people

I literally tried setting to 0 GB for LULZ but it did not have effect. It seems to be a placebo setting that actually does nothing, because frames kept dropping at 4K despite being set to literally 0 GB

As i said countless times before, there's no world where you "dial down" textures and get away. You either have enough VRAM... or not. This was the same case with Godfall.

Going from the highest possible textures to lowest possible usually only brings a funny 100-500 mb of vram at best that will probably be filled with other stuff in-game anyways

I had been there with a 2 GB card in 2017. No game functioned properly, ever. Even with lowest possible settings, being out of VRAM still hit the performance. No amount of low resolution, no amount of low textures helped with the performance hit.

uff, never realised that turning down textures settings down would only decrease vram usage that little, have the feeling there will be a LOAD of 3070s for sale once stocks start getting better

This game is a great GPU bench test. Not even Cyberpunk with RT works the GPU as hard as this game for me.

I have to run a core overclock lower in this game than any other I've tested so far with everything dialled up to max settings at 4K. Had to knock 30Mhz off my typical max GPU overclock to gain stability.
Where is the benchmark Matt? I can't find it...

Edit: ah ok you were referring to running the game in general and not a built in benchmark. Never mind.

So here is the thing, I turned everything on and started the game

immediately I started noticing the shadows were kind of flickering around as soon as my move the character around, it's especially noticeable on the carpet at the front door entrance right at the start of the game. The very first thing I tried was the culprit - variable rate shading, when it's on it causes ugly as flickering in the shadows, it kind of looks like shadows pop in and out of existence on certain objects - turning it off removes that issue completely. Variable rate shading also causes aliased edges to be more visible with camera movements

Thank Christ you finally upgraded that 580! Was doing my head in you running that on an old fashioned Gsync screen :S
Haha. Lovely card that, could still play a big chunk of my steam library maxed out with that card. I still have a 580 in another machine here actually. Who knows, I may sell my 3080 and stick the 580 in this machine at some point ;)

I'm playing it now fully maxed out and no it does not. No one cares if you like the game or not but to say it looks like a PS4 game is utter nonsense.

I agree, this sort of sentiment about it resembling 2013 PS4 graphics is nonsense. You run a game with these settings on a base PS4 with anything other than low/med settings on 1080p and you'll be lucky to break double digits.

Can't wait to jump on it later was hoping I would have had my new LG 27GP950 monitor before the games release.
Guess I'll after do with 1440p 144hz TN

@LtMatt is VRS ok for you on the 6900XT? I used to get artefacts when using Sharpen in Division 2 with a 2080Ti/3080, has been absolutely fine with AMD cards.
Does turning off fidelity sharpening fix the vrs flickering?
I did notice a tiny bit of texture weirdness in the video i recorded, look at the edge of the chair around the 30 second mark and the edge of the lamp.

I disabled VRS and CAS and it made no difference so it may be unrelated. Other than that it all seems fine though as far as i can tell.

There isn't one mate unfortunately. If they ever do one I'll start a bench thread. :)

Might be a driver bug or game patch needed for nvidia.

Played through the first hour and a half and the game looks stunning to me. Playing with everything maxed at UW 4K with an average of around 80 FPS (occasional lows in the late 60s) with my standard overclock profile loaded. Using almost 13 GB of VRAM.
