Hi,
Can anyone advise, please?

As seems to be a common issue on these motherboards, both my front panel usb ports
(JUSB3: USB 3.2 Gen 1 5Gbps Connector, in this case)
keep connecting then disconnecting. All of the time.

I've searched the web for what seems to be a frequent problem and much of the advice given is to adjust power settings. This I did to no avail.

This mainly affects the front panel usb sockets. Other usb ports seem fine. (Although I did recently witness connect/disconnect issue on rear usb ports but much less so)

Many thanks.

What Bios? Good question. It is version A50. Released in January this year I think.

I think I'll hang off a bit updating the bios until the next release is declared stable.

So, there is a known issue with this Amd/Ryzen then?

It's (sort of ) comforting to know others experience is similar.

My board is still under warranty but kicking up a fuss about a relatively minor issue might not be worth me doing a rebuild for.

Maybe I'll just put up with it and hope a fix is found someday.

Thank you.

Thank you.

I used the Beta Bios on my msi b450m mortar max which was for the same issues

Thankyou chippyo8.

I've had a look at MSI support site. It seems that bios7C56vA65 is out of beta mode and now considered full release.

Did it fix your issue?

I might give it a go then.

A bit of feedback...

I updated the chipset driver to 2.13.27.501.
Also updated the Bios to version 7C56vA6. (Latest mainstream bios release as of 17/05/2021). Which I think in Dragon center is also known as A60.

Immediately after updating the bios the PC took an age to reboot. Maybe 10 minutes. I then did another reboot for good measure. This time it didn't restart. It just got stuck after shutdown. No big concerns. I've had this before when updating bios on this motherboard. Although I was a little bit dubious about this, I must admit. A power off, power up (whilst keeping my fingers crossed) got it going again. Phew!

Then connected a Sandisk mp3 player via a front usb socket. Tested a transfer of a folder containing 1Gb of files from pc to Sandisk. This was fine. Then deleted it. All went well. Previously it would disconnect during file transfers.

At the moment I have an Iphone plugged in to the front port. The connection seems to be stable. I Haven't heard the disconnect sound since I plugged it in 10 minutes ago.

Keeping those fingers crossed for the time being.

Thank you for your help.

I Hope its solved for you now, just keep testing for a few weeks and if all is ok your issue should be fixed.

You could also try doing this in the BIOS settings:

OC > Advanced CPU Configuration > AMD CBS > Power Supply Idle Control > Typical Current Idle

I only really recommend it if the USB issue comes up again though. No point doing something and having the issue come back as a result.

Ok. One last chance at fixing this...

MSI tech support suggest this....

"Thanks for contacting MSI technical support.

Regarding your concern, please unplug 24 pin power cable, take out motherboard battery for more than five minutes and reinstall it. Then please enter BIOS, press F6 to load optimized defaults, press F10 to save and reset.
After that, please enter Windows, use Windows Update to install all the updates, download and install latest AMD Chipset Driver from MSI website to check again.
If the issue remains, please enter BIOS->OC to set Global C'state to disabled to test. Thanks!

Thanks for your cooperation in advance!

I'll give it a go later. I'm not holding my breath.
