Is now the best time to sell your GPU?

Yeah not worth it right now and I say that as a diehard PC game who didn't own any consoles inbetween the Megadrive/SNES and Wii (skipped the PS/DC/N64/GC/PS2/Xbox etc). Competitive eSports titles (that require a PC rather than console) generally run well on older GPUs.

XB Series X on the way so I might take a risk on ebay selling my son's GPU, he does most of his gaming on controller anyway.

Never thought I would get to this point... don't get me wrong, I'll still be a PC gamer, if prices fall I'll be back in the market eventually, but when a new gen console costs half what a (not top of the line) GPU does on it's own, something is broken.

I'll always be a PC gamer, and while the 3060Ti wasn't the card I wanted it was the only one I could get and being an FE I skipped the AIB/Retail part of the scalp, I'm out of the country now for events until mid/late August that have been confirmed, there's still other events in the calendar after that but I don't know what I'm being called in for yet, so, do I hope I can get another FE card at a later date, and sell the 3060Ti now, or do I keep it, leave it mining while I'm not using it and then just see where things are in early September but still have a card to use in the mean time, its certainly a tough call and CEX offering near £900 for the card now, in cash, its not a easy shout, will the card become worth less in a few months when ETH changes to PoS or will things carry on as they are for a while yet, which is what retailers, manufacturers, reviews etc are all suggesting is likely...

If you're gonna sell, sell asap.

Bitcoin and Eth crashing after China banned crypto from financial institutions, this is start of long turn down and if only large economies follow China it could be messy.
the prices are because of covid not bitcoin mining, few years until the factories catch back up imo

Prices are going crazy. Just 3 months ago I sold my 1070 mini on the bay and today one went on the MM for a little more than I got on the bay.

Might have to look into selling my 3080 lol
how ? thats against mm rules no selling for more than you paid

The question becomes if you 'need' that money. If not...id just keep the card. Either till you can get something else and sell this one, or if it does all crash... well you still have a decent card you paid RRP for. So yes "potential" money is lost... but when buying it your motivation was to game right?

Getting another FE card is also not straight forward. The retailer has pretty strong checks. So I wouldnt sell this one thinking you can get one easily again.

they test now at their branches ? in the past theyve always told me only the KIngston branch can take gpus

As far as i know they do test. No idea about specific shops only taking GPU's and am in Scotland mate maybe someone from your neck of the woods will be able to help.

Yeah, I had a bit of an upgrade splurge so upgraded my monitor, swapped to an iTX x570 board, got the 3060Ti (wanted the 3080 but couldn't get one and the 1 per household rule didn't exist back then) and have enjoyed shooting people at higher res, framerate and quality since, and no, I while I don't need the money, I'm out and about with work for a good while now, if I had managed to get the 3080 I wanted then it wouldn't be an issue, and now there's talk of the 3080Ti and it being around the grand mark, so if I can get rid of the 3060Ti for a decent chunk of that, then just have to see if I can get another card, usually there's no way I would drop a grand on just a GPU, hell the 3060Ti was the most I've ever spent on a GPU before...

Someone sold their own card recently for more than I sold for on ebay two months earlier.
Two different cards, so no profiteering, it was still sold for less than they paid for it new (likely years ago).

If you meant about my 3080, that was a joke.

My local tested it. Left it with them last night at 4.30pm. Got an email an hour later saying they were submitting my payment. Cash came in today.

Still some room for prices to climb when non-LHR stock dries up. I think I'll hang on for that. Haven't got a back-up card anyway.

At worst, prices go down and I just keep mining.

Yeah they approved payment within the hour so just waiting on it getting to my bank.

I paid £469. Mined on it for 6 weeks and sold.

Honestly think anyone trying to get a gaming pc should just try and get a console instead. The price difference is so vast.

Watching the website shop over the last few days looks like a lot of gamers are thinking the same must have been over twenty 3070fe`s come through the doors but that said they are selling them on just as quick at £1200 a shot.

I am thinking of doing the same with my 3080fe and using my old gtx 1060 6gb for basic pc gaming and just getting a PS5 to tide me over until next year.

If you want a semi pc replacement then the series x with gamepass offers most of the games I was playing on my pc anyway. Ps5 is on my wishlist but its game library is limited because ive already completed best ps games on ps4 pro.

As a gamepass machine the Xbox is excellent.

Possible but apparently NVIDIA: Founder Edition Cards will not get a Lite Hash rate Limiter SKU https://www.guru3d.com/news-story/n...ill-not-get-a-lite-hash-rate-limiter-sku.html

I wonder if LHR is nothing more than an option? If it is, I'll be surprised if any AIBs use it outside of a limited run for the good PR. Why would they willingly implement something which could reduce prices?

If it isn't, then any reduction in the supply of unlocked cards has the potential to drive up prices of remaining unlocked cards (inc. used) (unless this is the end of the current Crypto cycle...).

Thanks Hedge i will give it some thought.

Or this could be the last hurrah before supply becomes better in general LHR cards and the new lower end spec cards starting to hit the sales channel will all help. Most gamers only use cards that average 60fps at 1080p
