Is now the best time to sell your GPU?

Well your not making much sense then. If the second hand shop was doing so well, it obviously wasn't miners buying the cards was it?

This appears to blatantly be scalpers and opportunist gamers in for a fast profit selling to said second hand shop, then muppets buying these GPUs from the second hand shop.

this to be honest. The number of “gamers” in this forum have clearly stated that they bought cheap to flip and made so much profit that their FE or what else is now free upgrade or completely free - scalping basically is staggering

miner will buy at the right price, scalpers/resellers will buy as long as there is profit to be made. The latter doesn’t have a limit in the amount of GPU he or she will buy, the former does as the price threshold will mean return is not realisable.

Completely re-affirms my lack of faith in human kind :p $$$ is everything.

I don't think anyone has said that. Most people in this thread that were lucky enough to get a card close to msrp (like myself) did so with the intention of using it to play games. I had my card for nearly 6 months before selling.

It would be pretty stupid not to take advantage of the rediculously high buy prices at CEX. If people were hoarding basic neccesities you might have a point but it was bits of plastic, silicon and metal that are as far from an essential good as you can get.

Unfortunately that is the way our society is currently, money is king. Pretty much everything revolves around money.
Scalping is not illegal so if someone sees an opportunity to make a quick buck (specially in their circumstance the £100+ money might pay for a lot) you can't really blame them.

The buy prices have crashed there in recent days.

I was just highlighting the elephant in the room. Like I said a few times over some threads, its not miners solely to blame on this and these contradictory 'gamers' would rather flip a score or two and forgo any gaming yet point the finger at others its more than a bit rich.

You cant blurt out knee jerk opinions when on one hand your slating scalpers/miners for the prices of cards and lack of availability, then in the next breath join said party and exacerbate this issue further. Its called being a hypocrite.

You are inventing things. I haven't been slating scalpers / miners. I was mining with the 6800 nearly the whole time I owned it. I also can't see how the two quotes you have posted are in the least bit hypocritical. You seem to be getting yourself quite upset over some strangers on the internet who saw an opportunity to make a modest profit on something they happened to already own and took said opportunity.

He seems to take it all a little too personally. What people do with their possessions is their business. People are selling old gpus in Members Market for a high price. They can say "i paid 800 for this in 2018 and I want £799". People could say boohoo that's scalping too but people are just selling their items at market rate.

I bought a 3070 and used it for two months. A shop offered £1000+ for it. I considered my priorities in life and took them up on that offer.

The only mugs in this whole situation are the ones bitterly moaning about it all as if they have a god given right to a none essential item.

Hang on, you have openly stated what you did, you bought a 6800 used it then seen a time to sell and made a profit - this is my point. I personally don't care what you or @Hedge get up to as you are correct its your device, your money. (lol @TNA ;) this old classic again) My generalised snipe is the characters on the forums posting a plethora of times how its miners/scalpers yadda yadda complaining.

I am pointing out that regardless of what soapbox you invent, or narrative you conjure up if you do what you have done, dont complain about the lack of GPUs, how overpriced they are etc. If you have not done any complaining then this is not aimed at you. Simple.

Bully for you! You are my hero! I dont care if you made a profit.. like you shared perfectly you obviously didn't need the GPU in the first place. Get on with life, everyone's happy!

Some people are just salty. It happens to us all. We have the knowledge and street smarts but sometimes not the opportunity to capitalise on it. It's the bot users that have created an unfair playing field. But aren't they just using what they have? I'm still coming to terms with being content with what I have.

I bought my card in October, no intention of selling it on or anything like that.

But when someone basically says "I'll give you £1000 more than you paid for that", it's hard to turn it down, it was an absurd price. It's certainly not worth that much to me, and I'll stick with playing older games for a while and/or console as I've just bought a PS5.

There's no way that CeX would have been offering £1615 cash price if crypto didn't exist.

That's the secret to happiness. Usually anyone trying to sell you something to "make you happier" is just after your money ;)

So you are saying your action is because someone else’s action? So if CEX dangled £1000 off a cliff edge would you jump?

ridiculous…mining has been there for ages. Recent eth profitability has been big since June 2020 due to eth doubling in price then it just took off.

miners/gamers are a blurred line these days. Many people on here “classify” themselves as gamers with 1 GPU but mines all the time. And similarly gamers with multiple GPUs are mining with the prospect to make a quick buck as well as flip for profit.

No one is asking anyone to flip for profit or to mine. Be responsible to your own actions rather than blaming others for the problems.

Yep pretty much. That’s the devils work.
Soon as people see £££ they loose their minds and wits. Then have the audacity to blame crypto and miners for their own scalping…anyway if everyone just sat there not bought into the scalping scene then there won’t be one. But that is not human nature.

Cash price for my old card is now over £400 less. I think I made the right decision at the time.

I've picked up a PS5 to keep me going. I skipped a console generation, so there's a fair few PS4 games to play as well.
