2021 Season Chilli Growing

@Cadder Perhaps it is overwatering, can't hurt to cut back a bit and see if that makes a difference.
I am thinking that maybe it has just got very leggy due to not enough light and is now toppling over as a result.
Perhaps give it a support of some kind like a small cane and attach it with a loose loop of twine.
Aji mango is a really nice variety so it would be a shame if this one didn't make it!
Be gentle if bending it back to attach to a support you don't want to snap the stem, if you feel significant resistance better to leave it as is.

How many chillis (Ring of fire, lemon drop, Apache etc.) does one plant produce in the U.K. say in a 5 litre pot?

It’s my first year growing and interested to see what the typical U.K. yield is

My overwintered lemon, this lemon has been on the tree for at least 6 months. Ill pick it soon.

Covered in baby lemons already

The smell of lemons in bloom is just lovely.

I had quite an aphid battle..I won, these are the skeletons...Ill bath it soon to remove them.

Looking forward too this producing really long spirals of chilli

Pooey, they are coming on nicely and are due a pot on as roots have appeared at the bottom.

I can spell Jalapeno I promise.

This mushroom bonnet is loving the new warmth overnight and has shot up.

Really pleased with my pomegranate seedlings

Papaya seedlings coming on nicely.

Mexibell will be fun!

Moringa trees coming on...

Blue spiced basil is coming on great.

My garlic bed.

My mixed salad bed

Grape vine covered in grapes.

Busy greenhouse.

Things are moving on great guns

Sadly I've had less success this year than last year. Only wanted a few this year and the few seeds I sowed from a Suttons packet bought last year failed to geminate so I'm left with one overwintered plant with yellow leaves. Just re-potted it into a 10" pot as was only in a 6" round pot. It's flowering so hopefully okay. Will trim most of the large yellow leaves and see how it does from here

So the Aji Mango stood up all by itself yesterday, albeit like a drunk person trying to convince you they're fine. This morning it was still relatively upright and then within half an hour it keeled over, completely bent over.

I think this one may be sentient. This is it from yesterday:

My windowsill Aji Limon has gone nuts (over wintered plant) and I’ve had about 30 ripe peppers from it since re-potting and pruning in Feb. Doesn’t look like it’s going to slow down any time soon! Habaneros are starting to come on now too, but nowhere near as productive, as I’ve had a lot of issues with dropped flowers. Hopefully we’re over that now!

@Cadder at this stage I would be removing from the pot and looking at the roots as something may have attacked the root system, its clearly not happy. repot in fresh potting mix.

I killed my plants from last year apart from one.
Think I might kill it too even though it's covered in peppers.

Romano peppers are kinda meh.

It's a bit late but germinating some
Cubanelle
The Cubanelle, also known as "Cuban pepper" and "Italian frying pepper", is a variety of sweet pepper of the species Capsicum annuum. When unripe, it is light yellowish-green in color, but will turn bright red if allowed to ripen. Compared to bell peppers it has thinner flesh, is longer, and has a slightly more wrinkled appearance. It is used extensively in the cuisine of Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Puerto Rico and Italy.

Cubanelle peppers generally measure between a 100 and a 1000 on the Scoville scale. Most of the cubanelle pepper imports come from the Dominican Republic (where it is called ají cubanela), which is the main exporter of this cultivar.

some
San Marzano 2 tomatoes
Favoured by chefs, use to make paste or sauce, fewer seeds, great for pizzas. Sowing time February-April. Harvest July-September. Plum fruited variety. Deep red skins, meaty flesh and unsurpassable for making sauces!

and
French Bean Blue Lake (wanted Musica but they were out of stock so meh)

Also a few more cauliflowers.

I like too cook :D

@rotters Great update, so cool to see so much variety!
All seems to be growing really well too, keeping you very busy I bet.

@Cadder I'm with @rotters and would pull the plant from the pot and see if you can get any clues as to what is going on based on the roots.
Other than the bending and being a bit stretched it looks quite healthy but something definitely seems to be up.

The weather here has been seriously wet over the last week or so, most stuff is exhibiting symptoms of overwatering but we in for a dry spell now so hopefully that will correct everything. Plants in the coldframe are doing well especially the smaller ones on the side that still has the roof on. Those that have got too tall and have been moved to one side with thew roof off have taken a bit of a battering from the rain and wind which has slowed them down. My coldframe couldn't hold them all with the roof on all season so this was always going to happen at some point. Just a shame seeing the rate of growth drop off.

My overwintered plant is in a pretty bad way, I think I over estimated how strong it was based on the fact it was a year 2 plant.
Just stuck it out on the balcony and it now has very droopy leaves, lots of yellowing, plenty of flowers but all dropping :(
No point in bringing back in I don't think. Planning on doing some pruning to get of some of the damaged foliage in the hope the stint of good weather we are due will rejuvenate it.

Peas are going great guns, toms doing ok, chard bit slow but very healthy, radishes growing very well and so fast!
Trying to get some herbs on the go like lemon basil, thai and holy basil too but having mixed results, low germ rates and slow seedling growth.
Biggest struggle is with the cuvamelons, they seem to just be in stais, not really growing at all and In was really looking forward to trying them!
Again hopefully the inbound good weather will perk them up and get them moving.

Thanks to everyone for keeping the thread busy with updates and tips and tricks, really enjoying reading them and following along.
Definitely learning a thing or five on the journey :)

Well due to my neglect the chillis I sent outside have been totally destroyed by a combination of too much rain, slugs and a suspected fox who's been busy digging.
Chaps in the tent are doing ok - will post some updates soon.

Hope you guys are having better luck outdoors!

@pooey Aww man that sucks that your outdoor plants have bitten the dust.
Mine continue to do well in the cold frame with the roof removed, no slugs and nicely wind sheltered.
They are quickly out growing in though as they bush out, might have to go into the garden border with some stakes for support.
Quite a few flowers coming though now. I have upped the nutrients now will with a high PK low N profile.

Got me me outside now and they're drinking loads of water due to the heat, but they're growing really well. Rain forecast tomorrow and they're now too big for the window sill!

My window sill is getting busy, they are loving the sunshine. All the plants are producing flowers now, no dropping at all, first fruits are on the go. No idea what is what still, given the mixup in the germinating tray :D

Well, I have many chillies on the Sainsburys kids! Not sure how big they'll get!

As we're getting closer to D Day I'm stuck on this: we should flush (replace nutrients with plain water) before harvest to get rid of the brain chips or whatever is making them grow so great yeah. But with chillies all at different stages, does that imply it's fine to leave them all until the last is 'ready' and then flush? I see in gardens they get picked whenever but clearly I don't want more brain chips.

@pooey, sorry to see you had a murder! My friend has several plants indoors (soil) which are growing a treat, but I noticed yesterday the buds were covered in translucent green baby monsters! There are so many I want to put the kids (human kids) to work collecting ladybirds, and I'm thinking putting them outside is going to be the best chance they have.

Oh! Check it out. The top bud thingy, completely covered. I squashed many on others but ran out of time.

Spotted some green ******** on one my plants this morning....seemed to just be a cluster of 4-5 on one leaf....squished em and checked all the plants, hopefully that's the lot.

A little progress on mine:

Mushroom Bonnet is the first, and it's my naga in the "special pot". A few flowers showing, no fruits at all. I hope they don't get much taller!

Sorry to read that. Are they definitely gone or is there a chance of recovery?

I'm glad the cold frame is working out. I might have to make one. The office window is looking cramped now and these things just keep growing!
What's the PK and N stuff about? I've been watering mine with added tomato feed, is that OK?

Got me me outside now and they're drinking loads of water due to the heat, but they're growing really well. Rain forecast tomorrow and they're now too big for the window sill!

I went from watering once a week (or longer) to almost every day with this heatwave. I saw the biggest and bushiest chilli wilting so watered it and it revived. They've been needing a lot of attention lately.

Spotted some green ******** on one my plants this morning....seemed to just be a cluster of 4-5 on one leaf....squished em and checked all the plants, hopefully that's the lot.
Were they aphids? I sprayed some stuff on my plants after spotting a few. Only when I saw the dead bodies later did I realise there were a lot of well-camouflaged little rascals...

My Hungarian Black was found face down, completely flopped 90+ degrees on to my desk. Hadn't quite uprooted though. I have stood it back up, pushed it firmly deeper into the soil and also given it an emotional support stick.

Any updates on your chillies @pooey @rotters @Rathian @Griffo and @ anyone else I missed?

damn I forgot how slow pepper plants grow from seed lol.... don't even have true leaves yet and it's been over a week.

My cauliflower seedlings are being lame too, I don't think they really like full sun :S seems stunted and half dried out on some of the leaves :/

French beans are already started to climb with big leaves on them though.

Tomatoes barely bigger than my peppers but growing faster

Courgettes doing decent but the pot I have it in is way too small and I want to save my big pots for the peppers/tomato plants.

I'll take a photo of them lined up at some point, I'm not growing much though just what fits inside my balcony and kitchen window
