3080 FE vs RX6800 Nitro+

I had been looking for a 3080 since building my current rig, it’s the card I had always planned on building with. I purchased my 6800 in late Jan, the 3080 was not available anywhere at the time.

However, if by purchasing this 3080 I have been unfair then I will cancel the order immediately. I care about the gaming/PC enthusiast community and I would never even attempt to profit in the current (depressing) situation we are in! I was simply trying to get the GPU I had planned on - the Telegram alert came in and I just tapped it and purchased the card as normal - I couldn’t believe it myself. If I do keep the 3080, I would have course want my 6800 to go to a fellow gamer at the right price. I do care about our hobby and this community and I am sorry if my action in buying this card was wrong.

Keep the card that works best, nothing unfair or such (as long as you only buy 1 etc), i currently have a 6700xt and would buy a 6800xt / 3080 if had the chance (and not silly price ;)) i don't see your situation as any different.

This is the issue for some people and why they are trading up, they want a 3080 or 6800xt at reasonable price but had to settle for something in a lower tier, usually thanks to scalpers having bought up cards at reasonable prices

I'm using a 6900 XT and a 6700 XT, I have been very impressed with the performance of the 6700 XT tbh. I could easily make do with it at 4K if I had to. :)

The drivers seem to have closed the gap with the 3070 a little since launch

Morning everyone, my 3080 FE arrived this morning - I couldn't quite believe it when I opened the package! Is it real? :p

I'm going to try it later and see how it compares to my RX 6800 (non XT). I think I will keep the 3080 though - although It certainly won't look as amazing as the Sapphire Nitro+. I'll report how they compare on this thread once I've tried it.

I really want my 6800 to go to a gamer though, I hope that by selling to CeX it will.

Let's hope the fabs can ramp up capacity soon and this craziness is short lived.

It’s an admirable stance you’re taking on the purchase. The CeX sale may well go to a gamer now that mining has taken a big downturn recently. It’s a shame that you can’t sell on here until you get access to MM at 1000 posts. I’ve got a GPU that I’d like to sell on at a reasonable price, not going to bother with ebay.

That's another yet another FE card that could have gone to somebody who really needed it. No wonder there's a shortage.

Ignore the poster above, he could just as easily have signed up to an alert and got one. So could anybody complaining. Unfortunately some people would rather point the finger of blame rather then take the few simple steps needed.

Enjoy your new card :)

I've got the telegram app and I'm signed up to FE Part Alerts. I received the notification and I clicked the link as soon as I could (during my lunch break at work) but I didn't get through the payment process in time.

Same. Clicked the notification the instant it came on the phone and kept refreshing the page for 15 mins, nothing loaded. Gave up.

I suppose its just down to luck, certainly doesn't seem like a straight-forward route to MSRP GPU, the way this is projected.

Anyways, congrats to OP and good luck everyone for the next drop.

It’s definitely down to luck. I had also been trying with the Telegram alerts for a while.. which is why I really couldn’t believe it. The only thing I did to speed it up was to make sure the retailers site was already signed in on Chrome on my iPhone and my card details are also saved in Chrome, perhaps that helped a little too.

I really hope that a mere mortal managing to get one is perhaps an early sign that things are starting to get better.

You seem very humble, a trait as short in supply these days as the MSRP GPUs :p.

FWIW I saw a couple of Gigabyte 6800/6800XT alerts at somewhat reasonable prices, not exactly MSRP but OKish.

Usual roulette caveats though, short time-frame, constant refreshing, out of stock, etc.

Hopefully a sign of things improving.

It's quite funny. They buy the something in a lower tier but at the price the card they want is supposed to be. I really want to upgrade my vega 64 but I'm not paying over 500 quid for a below midrange part. I wanted a 3060ti and they are supposed to be under 300 quid...

Pretty impressive at msrp. My friend managed to get a card at msrp only because of a raffle system on a site. However, that did include a PSU as well.
