Rtx 3080 vs Rx 6900 XT

I posted earlier in this thread the reasons for my decision.

Eliminated 3090 on price.
Eliminated 3080 on price and availability
Eliminated 6900 on price v performance value.

So that more or less led me to an rx 6800 xt.
Yeah, in current situation you don't select card by what's the best choise, but by what's the least bad choise.:p

Also back to the original question - did anyone reference SPS (single pass stero) which is nvidia specific. From what I understand it sounds like it was designed for VR. As far as I know AMD do not have any equivalent.

Lol.

Your logic is valid but your perspective a bit negative.

What would your choice be and why?

Don't have to choose anymore.
In last month managed to find Sapphire Nitro+ 6900XT SE from stock in one shop at price which wasn't much any above price of rare in stock 6800 XTs.
With Ryzen 5900X gotten some weeks ago now aiming to do PC rebuilt at latest next week end.
Hopefully that coming three week leave from "summer" work which has continued for over year stays as such...
Except for Christmas-New Year break have been working Monday-Friday whole time.

Now if those 100+Hz 32" 4K monitors would get finally released.
2560x1440 would be downgrade from 8½ years old Dell U3014 2560x1600.
(and 27" LG 27GP950 would be clear size downgrade assuming it were available)

Ah yeah I suppose. If NZXT release a kraken g13 that would help costs, but there doesn't seem to be a product like that for rtx 3090

That's it. For their respective RRP's the 3090 is the better card for it's utility beyond gaming, better RT and 4K performance, but at available prices at present it's far more expensive than the 6900 XT and obviously the value proposition suffers massively as such. Looking back now the FE which was fairly regularly available about 5-7 months ago and was great value compared to current pricing. Hindsight and all that.

Retract those claws EsaT :):)

I am jealous of your 6900. (A bit)

You're correct. It's probably me you have in mind.
I tested out oculus Go, Rift S and Quest 2.
Finally settled on a Quest 2,

At the moment I'm currently playing Automobilista 2. That could well alter depending on the weather ;). Project cars, assetto corsa too. It's not a good strategy to get much better at these games. Hey, I have fun and frustration with all of them. :)

I've already committed to an rx 6800 xt. It'll be good enough for me, I'm sure. I'm a casual gamer, not an avid gamer.

The 3080 would be far better for PCVR on the Quest 2 than the 6800XT.

But, I can totally understand you going with the 6800XT and you should be happy with the performance. Coming from an Rx 590, it will feel like a massive upgrade.

Thanks melmac.

If I happen to stumble across a 3080 at a reasonable price I'm still going to jump at it. But now that I've bagged a 6800 then thats my desire sated for the moment..... I hope ;). Gear acquisition syndrome may strike again.

The 6900 and 3080 are just overkill for my needs. If the market were reasonable then maybe I'd consider them but two grand for a graphics card? Not for me. Not yet.

I’d go with the 3080. I had a 6800xt and for some reason amd cards just can’t run cryengine games properly, such as kingdom come deliverance. I got better performance from a 3070 I upgraded from. Also ray tracing, there crap at it. Go with the 3080

Yeah, 3080 would have been my first choice but I've committed to a 6800xt now. It cost exactly £1000 new. If it actually does turn up on my doorstep on Tuesday then I'll be very pleasantly surprised. At that price though I thought it was a reasonable compromise against waiting and wondering if I could ever find a 3080 that wasn't scalping prices. I'd still buy a 3080 if it presented itself at a reasonable price though.

It seems there's a lot of votes now for the 3080. Blinking would be, after I've gone and bought a 6800rx!

Lol. Don't you just love forums :):):)
