Ive searched through some previous threads about what power PSU to pair with the 3080 founders.

Some people are saying 650w is fine (good quality psu - say the rm650x) otjers are saying power spikes on these cards mean you need to get 1000w or higher to be safe.

Due to this conflicting info and to get more recent experiences ive raised another thread

Could anyone with a 3080FE list their PSU and any experiences of power spikes or what have you leading to you needing to increase capacity?

I have an ollldd budget corsair 650 watt. I have my eye on the corsair rm750x but i am worried it might not be enough

It will need to handle up to amd 5950 and 2 ssds.
 
M8 had the RM850 and went from a 2080ti to a RTX3080, he had an issue with re-booting and blank screens. Swopped out for a HX1000 and all was good. The old psu still runs in another system with the 2080ti ok. He's OC the system and cards plus loads of hdd's but I would have thought the 850 would have been ok. I guess it depends on how the rails are split and what's attached the them. I'd always get the max you can to cover all bases.

Definitely don't use your old PSU!
For the system you're speccing I'd say a good quality 850-1000W.

Personally, if it was my own system, I'd be looking at a good quality 1000W minimum to allow a decent overhead and future upgrades as high end GPUs seem to be drawing more and more power, coupled with very high spikes.
It would also allow for some overclocking as well.
 
Thanks, so sounds like 750 should be ok 850 to be safe, 1000 for looking into the future and/or heavy overclocking.

I dont think ill ever do heavy overclocking on gpu or cpu

I think you're skimping there and I'm not sure why? If I was looking to buy a high-end pre-built with your GPU and CPU and it came with just a 750W I'd feel the builder was penny pinching.

BTW, did you not see the Asus recommendation above?

I too am a bit confused. You're talking about 3080 and a 5959 and a couple of SSD's (all cost significant money), yet are hellbent on saving £10 (850W), or £50-60 (1000W). That just seems like a strange place to save, it's not like 1000W costs more to run vs 750W.
 
There is enough threads on this to let you know it is not just about the wattage, some of these PSU's cannot handle the Transient Spikes the new top AMD/Nvidia GPU have and some here have found that out and one of them was using a good branded 850w with a 3090 that ran 2x1080Ti yet BSOD on the 3090, solution was a 1000w PSU.

IMO if you have a 3080/90 you buy at a min a 850w on that list, some here boasting they are running a 3090 on a 700-750w, well lets just say I will bit my tongue.

Ye it said 750w! Maybe im not reading itnright?

another retailer are selling the rm850x for £110 which looks like a good deal?

To be honest, the choice is over whelming. Various reviews seem to suggest the corsair RMx line is descent.

One of the takeaways I've seen from this generation is that people aren't bothered about having to buy a higher capacity PSU, so if you're looking forward to the next generation you might want to overcompensate and get a 1 kW PSU.

Best to remove the competitor mention.

Rather confusingly, Corsair update their PSUs and keep the same name. Make sure it's the 2021 model.

It is, a good starting point is 80 Plus Gold, Titanium is even better but also look at the warranty as is it's a good indicator. Then obviously check a few reviews.

Its not apparent which retailers are selling for 2021 version and which the 2018.! Im assuming the retailer that has it at 110 is the old model.

Contact them to make sure. I'm guessing the part number will be updated to reflect the new model.

The 2021 model seems to a better bet for latest 3000 and 6000 series cards.
 
I've been running a 3080FE with 5600X using a Corsair SF750 for the last week with no noticeable issues. Mainly running RDR2. Got a slight undervolt on the GPU but monitoring stability before trying the same on the CPU.

Annoyingly and stupidly, the site doesn't list any part numbers :(

In an around about way, from their business site, I can confirm it is the 2021 model :)
