Picked this up today, and it's amazing!!

2015, Corsa VXR with the performance pack.

Bigger brakes, 18 inch alloys, Koni suspension, and an LSD from the factory.

I drove it home today and it's a lovely little motor. The Mrs wanted something with a little bit of go, after her A4 estate was starting to get a little tired and was throwing up a few issues.
(2007 A4 2.0 tfsi special edition)

It's surprisingly roomy, comfy, and very well equiped for the price/age. Really looking forward to getting to know it and enjoy it over the next few years :)

I assume you don't have kids. I've been looking for something for the wife that has some nip to it as well but having the two young kids narrows things down considerably

We’ve ‘managed’ with a 3 door Mini Cooper sd for years.

Nice VXR unusual motors!

We have two, 8 and 5 at the moment :)

The back seats are surprisingly comfy for a fully grown adult. I can sit there with legs not touching the seats with an adult comfy Infront of me. No issues at all with the kids in their with their seats strapped in.

We also have my 7 series as my car which has ample room for us and the dog for longer journeys.

Never knew these were that cheap, I'd be very tempted with a remap, 230bhp(ish) for that price and weight is a bit of a bargain!

Me too, their real potential is bonkers.

Have you been driven round in one by a btcc driver ? The things they can make them do!

I went around with Fabrizio Giovanardi, and it was a real eye opener :D

Not had much chance to drive it since the first day, but it seems there is an issue with the early control screen in these, which is stopping all the connectivity working properly with newer phones. However, I have found a company that will retrofit the later one, and code it to the car, and make it all a lot more usable. Slightly annoying, but at least it will all look factory when done! All in it is about £460 quid.

Yeah, it's interesting, not seen many more on the road. I think a lot were likely crashed :D

I have just wired in the dash cam, and ordered the later model dash panels. Then spoke to the specialist and also ordered the new navigation screen with the required programming to match it to the car.

Hopefully be able to fit it all next week :)

Didn't these have some big problem with one of the pistons failing? Or was that the earlier one.
There is lot of talk about it online. No one knows for sure, other than most of the cars that went wrong were supposedly ragged from cold, not serviced properly and used 95ron fuel (they are 98-100 Ron according to the manual).
So we are running on 98+, and although the Mrs is a spirited driver, she certainly is not one for ragging it off the driveway, and we will keep it serviced correctly :)

Ours is 28k from new and has Main dealer FSH. So it's about as clean a base as we could do with this particular model.

If it does goes wrong, meh, it can be fixed!! It won't be as hard as doing the valve stem seals on my 750i :D

They can if abused all the B16LER engines had a design fault allowing the piston to overheat and crack. GM improved it a bit but never actually fixed it they just moved over to the GDi engines. Keep it well serviced, allow it to warm up properly and avoid bouncing of the limiter and all will be good.

Great info, thanks :)

I really do think a lot of these second owners (and perhaps first owners who didn't listen) would not have be running 95 RON just out of habit/cheapness. As I understand it the higher RON helps protect against pre-ignition which is known to cook turbo engines, so a weakness in cylinder 4 would have been much more likely to show, especially when the engine is mistreated/driven hard.

I just issued my Mrs' with a load of pre-measured fuel octane booster products in small labelled glass bottles.
So she has 1RON, 2 RON and 3 RON "shots" available in case she cannot get 98RON at the pump for any reason.

I have had the new dash panel arrive from GM parts, and should have the "R4" version of the Screen, pre coded to the car with the loom adaptor/etc, here on Friday. Apparently there is just one part that needs a little dremel attention behind a panel, so I am hoping its fairly straightforward :)

Tesco Momentum and Shell V Power are 99 RON, BP Ultimate is only 97.

You can run it on 95 as well but 98 is recommended, so if 98+ isn't available then I wouldn't worry about octane boosting it.

The Piston 4 issue seems to be mostly for those who have modified their engine from standard. I believe if you keep it standard and don't boot it from cold then it should be fine.

Interesting, the manual specially does not mention 95.

Which I did find odd, but I figure it's for a reason, so will always keep it to at least 98 with an additive if needed.

I did figure that mods would have accounted for a lot of the failures, but it's hard to find much clear information on the issue. I do know the later cars (Corsa E rather than D) had a new ECU also, so I assume some of that was VX trying to address any potential problems, which I guessed was why 95 RON was also dropped from the manual :)

Aye, looks like they changed it, Corsa D pre 2010:

Mine actually has the A16LER engine, not the Z16LER as I got mine when they changed it a bit (has the change up indicator to indicate the newer A16 engine). VX kindly supplied me with the old owners manual for some reason.
