Intel DG1 tested

Intel's drivers are a concern when it comes to how competitive they'll be with AMD and Nvidia when they launch their "real" dedicated cards. They've always been absolutely godawful for gaming purposes, and every title they tested here exhibited terrible lows and stuttering despite the overkill CPU.

But when was the last time you saw a frametime analysis of Intel integrated graphics - likely never. Now that they are making discrete cards and will be aiming them at gamers in the future, then frametime analysis will be common place, and Intel's driver team will have to resolve it to be taken seriously (in the same way both AMD and NVIDIA did when frametime analysis first started to be used)

What's funny is, do you remember who brought about frame time analysis? FCAT?

It was Ryan shrout at PCPer - Where is he now? Intel as Chief performance strategist. I imagine frame pacing will be sorted otherwise he'll have egg on his face.

It was technically Nvidia - they went around looking for people from the tech press to partner with. They had approached the people at HardOCP who declined, and then went to PCPER apparently.

Then PCPER came out with their test tool(before it was called FCAT),but said they had a "hardware partner" IIRC,and a few months later we saw who that partner was!

Ah well remembered yes, it put AMD's cards in a bad light. Shrout (and PCPer) were called out as pro Nvidia. A shill.
