Hi,

Was driving through the m25 last night, I have been flashed twice within around 20minutes same night.

Firstly there was a 50mph variable speed limit, I slowed down to about 45-47mph, it was between jct 27 towards jct26 anti clockwise just after the tunnel if someone drives the m25 they’ll know what one I’m talking about, I believe it was a single flash so I’m not too sure what to think of it.

the second one was between jct25~24 heading from Enfield to potters bar, the camera is literally about a mile before jct24 slip road, there was nothing displayed on the gantries and I definitely got double flashed? What’s the crack with them, how can I even set them off without breaking the speed limit (which is literally impossible in a lorry unless there is a variable speed limit displayed.

I have heard before that these cameras sometimes flash once to calibrate themselves although I’m not too sure how true that is, never heard of them flashing twice though like it’s happened with my second encounter.

Before anyone accuses me of speeding, I was driving my lorry, it’s restricted to 56mph (55 indicated on sat nav)

We have cameras in our lorries with accurate speed reading aswell, so I have that just incase I have to prove my innocence lol.

Don't worry about it. If you weren't speeding it's all good. See these things go off loads, and have been caught several times years back. Either camera being triggered incorrectly or gantry not communicating with the camera.

like I said, I just found it a bit strange how it can go off especially on a lorry when there is nothing displayed.

Only time will tell if anything comes if it does what are my chances of contesting it with obviously camera footage that shows both the road and speed?

If you receive an FPN, they may well provide you a link to an online portal where you can review the photographic evidence and calibration certificates for the camera. However if you're sure you weren't breaking any limits or there was no speed limit active on the gantry, then I wouldn't worry, it won't even get that far. They won't bother to send one unless the gantry sign is properly illuminated.

14 days wait begins, we will see what happens I suppose, I know for a fact I’m not taking points for something I haven’t done if I do receive a ticket.

I get the feeling that the speed limits shown on overhead gantries are so "random" that it beggars belief that anyone relies on them :(

I know they’re so random, it’s like last night coming towards jct26 anti-clockwise it said queue ahead, went to 50 on the camera, which I slowed down to 45mph roughly, it flashed once so god knows what’s that about, and then literally next gantry went to 40mph saying the same thing queue ahead no camera this time though, and the gantry after that went to national speed, I haven’t got a clue how that makes any sense and how stuff like that is legal when the road is literally empty, it’s a money generating machine.

Regardless I won’t be accepting any ticket if anything does come through the post.

They're traffic management cameras. You won't always know why they have imposed a lower limit and it shouldn't matter.

They shouldn’t be set off when your going below the limit either, I’m quiet calm about it since it is what it is, if anything comes through then we worry, but if someone takes it the wrong way it can take their mind of the road and then cause an accident.

(My emphasis).

But in practice, it DOES matter. The problem is that if people regularly see speed reduction signs without any apparent reason they will inevitably tend to ignore them.

It would be nice to believe that someone is actually keeping an eye on Motorway traffic.

Hi, I'm interested in how this ended as the exact same thing happened to me at about 3am this morning. I was cruise-controlling at 70mph (but 68mph on WAZE) and got flashed.
