How about a corner garage door? Obviously it's not going to be a cheap option, but if possible would mean you still get to keep the garage and make it usable.
You'll still need the steel to support the roof, though. You'd need to talk to a structural engineer.
What is that! Could be the answer!
In fact, I think that's absolutely bloody perfect. It's remote controlled, so as I reverse down the drive, I can press a button, it opens up, I can swing the car around, straighten up, then close the door. I owe you a drink!

The door was always the easy bit, though. It’s the steels that will be the cost/complexity.Yeah, the fact it's even possible though is fantastic

Build a wall foundation next to neighbour's fence,
Take the roof off, sell the tiles on eBay,
Take the bricks down 1 by 1, starting from the roof then working your way to the wall that needs to come down,
Knock off mortar from old bricks and use the same bricks to build the wall up next to neighbour's fence,
Once wall is done employ a roofer to put a light weight roof on the top covering the whole thing.
Only thing is you are still going to have a big steel/brick post supporting the corner so is this really going to benefit you?
If that's the case then no. I've spoken to a local builder today and think we're going to just change it into a wider garage with a new roof
This sounds like a much more sensible solution and might actually add a little to the value of your property instead of removing it. Put an electric door on it while your there, you’ll thank me later
Just make sure to check if you need planning permission, you’ll certainly need a party wall agreement with whoever it is attached to.
Yes, because it joins their property you'll need a party wall agreement before you can undertake any works. It will cover how you'll make good the roof etc.

This is a routine process but you'll need to cover your neighbours costs. Your neighbour can make your life difficult but they are challenging to block if what you are trying to do is reasonable. If you can't agree, two surveyors ultimately decide what is reasonable and even then one of you can appeal and it would go to county court.
You mentioned they are selling up? They may well strongly protest to the work if that is the case (I would) and could make your life difficult getting one in place. I can't see how they wouldn't be legally required to disclose it to their buyer either which could put the sale at risk.
The house which owns the garage directly behind mine are selling, but the garage behind the parking space isn't.
