Hi all,

Do laptops exist right now that support 4k/120hz for desktop browsing? (not necessarily gaming, as it's a work laptop)

New job is buying me a new machine for WFH, so thought that if it's to be a laptop - then i'd like to keep my 4k 120hz if possible. Needs to be HDMI.

Alternatively, are only the latest 3000 series and 6800 series gpu's the only hdmi 2.1 cards?

Cheers

Looks like only high spec laptop gpu are using HDMI 2.1 , display ports do high resoloution maybe you could get an adapter.

What sort of budget have you got for the laptop ?

Thanks for the reply mate.

No budget right now. I think I need to spec up a few machines to see what the range needs to be.

It looks like it could only be gaming machines that support the high res with high Hz.

Could you not cope with 60 hz ?

DisplayPort 1.4 does support 4K @ 120HZ:

but I assume your 4K 120Hz display is a TV and doesn't have DP.
Club 3D make a DP 1.4 to HDMI 2.1 adapter

A quick Google finds lots of laptops with DP 1.4 , but none with HDMI 2.1.
Native HDMI 2.1 really requires Ampere or RDNA2 so maybe a ThunderBolt eGPU case?

Yeah, its a TV.
It works perfectly on my RTX card in my PC, which is what I was aiming to keep (4k120)
I used the club3d displayport > hdmi adapter when I had an RTX 2000 series card, but it didn't work very well and was hit and miss when I turned the PC on, so I'd like to stay clear of that if at all possible.

I've used this TV for so long now, it's perfect for everything I do right now, work included. I'm not sure how happy work will be if i spec up a gaming laptop though! :D
Since it's a HDMI spec (2.1) - hopefully more GPUs start coming out being able to support 4k/120 on the desktop without it being a gaming GPU.

At least thats give ypu an option for a laptop with mini display port although youll need another adapter to dpi.

£1500 is the cost of a laptop 3070 with hdmi 2.1
