Do i need PCIE GEN 4 for 30 Series ?

I was about to buy a 30 series GPU from Nvidia and noticed the advert said PCIE GEN 4 was needed.

My mobo only has PCIE GEN 3.

Is there any negative impact of using the Gen 3 or do you have to have the Gen 4.

In short no not really, difference is minimal. Makes more of a difference with NVME SSD speeds.

Will be absolutely fine - it's something like a 2% performance loss in worst case synthetic benchmarks

Don't think he's ever tested anything where it made a big difference except maybe for those trying to DIY an external GPU with a laptop's x2 PCIE expansion cards or using ThunderBolt 1.

Most things pci related are backwards compatible. Top performance would be pci-e 4, then a small drop off for 3 and god forbid pci-e 2.
