Reliable cheap small car for parents

Hi all,

Parents old 1997 Fiesta failed the MOT and is irrepairable.

Looking for something smallish (but not tiny tiny), hatchback or similar. Reliable, petrol, cheap to run and maintain. Preferably under £1500. Something they can use as a local runabout (they don't do many miles), with occasional trips to Wales.

Any suggestions please?

This, Had one as a courtesy car from Honda, was alright to drive considering I went in with a Honda Accord, Small on the outside deceptively big on the inside, surprised me how big the overall cabin was, and being a Honda it will last forever.

Ha ha far too big for my mom to drive, she wouldn't like it.

My 2006 Clio MK 3 lasted twice as long as the Fiesta it replaced and about 10 times better in every way. The Fiesta was a rust bucket

Or the next size down, a Twingo.

Under £1500 probably isn't going to get something in good condition these days though.

It is very Jazzy too as the name of it suggests.

That’s basically the same as a Smart Forfour, I’ve got a Smart Fortwo and I love it but the Forfour hasn’t been out that long so getting one for £1500 might be tricky.

Plenty of older Fortwo’s about though but probably too small for the OP.

What's wrong with it?

Its needed welding work for the past few MOTs now they would need to weld on top of existing weld so it would need new metal splicing in to the chasis. It could be done probably but would cost more than the scrap value the car is worth.

Also suggest a Jazz. Should be able to get a mk2 EX for under £2k.

Unfortunately the Jazz is out. Apparantly around here there have been a lot of catalytic converter thefts on Hondas of a certain age which includes these Jazz's of 2010 era.

My mom really likes the VW polo circa 2009 age.
