Did I cross a sleeping policeman?

I susbsequently read this thread that said they usually have the ANPR running out of the front window.

below comment was interesting - + comments that it is the reflection off of the verticalish plates/lights that maybe the 'best' for the 2m dia beam @800m

e: that thread with seemingly poilce comments is 1/2 second or 1/3rd to lock you
I've always wondered if something Lambo shaped would deflect more, it sort (with squinty eyes and looking at it funny kind of look like an F177), pretty angular compared to normal cars. Anyone want to try:D. Also wonder if anyone's tried radar absorbing paint.

I think things like grilles and headlights reflect loads, so probably aren't any better. You would need to cover all those up and square off any rounded surfaces so nothing faces forward.

Composites and plastics seem to help. Even when under paint. Radar will go right through fibreglass and not see it (which is why fibreglass boats use radar reflectors), but then there are going to be metal things right under it on a car.

But light is weird, it takes a lot of testing to make something "stealthy".

I'm sure BMW were thinking of the police lasers when they designed the oversize grill,
or, with the latest telematics of cars having multiple seconds worth of data, the police will be able to appeal to your cars VAR.

That grille will have a massive cross section. The light will go in and bounce around then scatter all over the place. They can't miss :D

The old, tiny popup headlight sports cars with small grilles are probably the best.

Well i'm hoping i'm lucky as 14 days from the 17th (incident was on 16th) was Friday 30th, so if it gets sent 1st class I should have had it Saturday or today, and i've had nothing so I'd hope by the middle of the week if I don't have anything i'm okay! Post has been coming in everyday as normal so not sure if any delay could be in play etc.
Its looking really good for you I am hoping it is the result you want but be aware because of the pingdemic staff shortages in public service sector roles the system seems to be really slow so they can post to you within 14 days but if it arrives within 28 days that is how long they have to serve you the notice!

After 28 days you are in the clear they probably could not get a decent reading on your number plate but could be the pingdemic staff shortages... I am in a similar position (almost 3 weeks now) but pleaded guilty now I want to challenge this as seen so many drivers on motoring forums complaining about unfair treatment & asking for video evidence (which sometimes is not clear so they get it over turned!). Some even got done in vehicles (slow vans) which could not possibly reach the speed on the road in the time given on the evidence.

This speeding system is manned mainly by civilians I doubt many actual real traffic police are involved (due to budget cutbacks) so this alone makes me wonder how good the evidence quality actually is & how thorough the process is. Do they just issue them regardless as most do not challenge it seems strange they do not offer to show you the evidence yet if you go to court they might show you  but not until they are challenged.

The DVLA is a shambles at the moment so maybe requests for details etc are getting lost or running down the clock. They have been on strike apparently. People have been waiting months for V5 forms and licences.

And yea, it's like parking companies, they will send out the fine even if it's wrong. It was up to you to check it but you aren't being allowed to do that. I can't see how that is fair and legal treatment.

TBH everyone should just plead not guilty and take it to court, they would soon change it again when the court system gets jammed up with minor speeding fines.

If it takes them longer than 14 days to send you the letter then you can get out of it.
I looked into that they only need to post it within 14 days & the court accepts their word for doing this with no proof of postage  they have 28 days to get it into your hand via the post box after 28 days its not valid apparently.

I think the whole system is very unfair towards the motorist. Run by civilians who have no authority other than to point the device at the vehicle  its a money making exercise pure & simple & the law has been changed so its 1 sided against you as the video & photo evidence is not even available anymore unless you challenge it in court! (risking bigger fine & more points if the court think you are wasting their time!).

Yep, it's no suprise people are just removing their front plates. The risk of being stopped and fined for that (if they don't buy the "it fell off" story) is less than a speeding fine etc.

Do not blame them 1 little bit its becoming a George Orwell 1984 nightmare scenario with little common sense applied by the people who are supposed to uphold the law!

Yup.

I've not seriously contemplated it, but..... It's seems now more automation, it's an easy way of avoiding everything with little risk/penalty.

Particularly on motorcycles I see illegal plates all the time, last weekend going down the A1 a group of 3 bikes went past no number plates at all.

One guy in our riding group, has his number plate up in front of the rear wheel so you basically can't see it.

I've seen some bikers with them on hinges. So you can't see them from behind when they are moving, but look fine when stopped lol

It will cause problems with some car parks though. The ones where you have to enter your reg to pay, because it won't see you enter. I guess you could just cover up the rear before you drive out.

Dodgy number plates mean your vehicle gets put on the active police hotlist for ANPR so expect to get a pull out of the blue when you least expect it from a plain cop car pointing their camera at your vehicle.

Not a nice experience there was an article in the national press a few months ago about someone on the ANPR hotlist this happened to with cloned number plates got a hard stop from armed police from the serious crimes squad leaving the services slip road ! They had been tracking the vehicle plate as it was used in serious crime the innocent motorist got caught up in it because his plates had been cloned & he was on the ANPR hotlist!

There are other methods where motorists use exotic nano particles on their number plates to avoid ANPR detection but if they get caught its a very serious offence & you can even expect HMP time & big fines!

Sure but when it's a weekend car (like much of the exotic stuff, which often run with no front plates) it's unlikely to get seen by traffic police :p

Had my fine through...

3 points, £100 fine....no course

I was caught doing 44 in a 30mph area.

I got a replacement V5 in four days when I was selling my Focus. And the new V5 for my 428i in around 8 days. And a couple of days later the notification I was no longer the registered keeper of the Focus too. If they’re on strike they’re doing a **** poor job of it.

Not leaving enough braking distance.

Changing lanes aggressively, not using appropriate signals etc.

People playing with their phones etc whilst driving.

People with cars in poor condition, bald tyres, worn out brakes etc

Sitting in right lanes not overtaking, and not pulling over to allow faster cars to pass.

These things happen, all the time, all the time, and go unpunished.

But no, you doing 81, you criminal you, you child murderer........
I'm not one for speeding I just set have the limiter always on these days but I agree with this.
Someone doing 80 on a quiet fair weather motorway is nothing compared to some people's dangerous actions.
It's obvious why they target speeding though, it's easy to prove and police.

Imo that should be licence taken away.

Imo...no it shouldnt...

It wasnt in a built up area. It was on a dual carriageway going out of the city.....the speed van was placed not far from where the speed limit goes up to 50!

Classic money generating setup. There is a couple in every town.

If it's an open road where the limit is low for seemingly no reason on a small stretch, there is a good bet camera vans will frequent it.
