Did I cross a sleeping policeman?

Takes a while to receive it.

They are getting more aggressive about this & reducing the threshold leeway offered to motorists as well. The new camera vans are being stealthily placed on bridges so you can barely see them from the road but the new laser cameras are able to pick you up a very long way away & by the time you reduce speed they have already got you!

Also, they only need to post it within 14 days if it takes longer than 14 days to receive due to slow post then its still enforceable so technically you could get it within a month & still be done for it!

So if i've read it correctly, this happened on the 16th, so if I say the clock started on the 17th (day of incident doesn't count apparently) they need to have written it up and sent it no later than 23:59 on the 31st (yesterday)? With it being a Saturday the PO won't have done anything with it, and won't do until Monday, so safe to say I could still expect it this week 2nd - 6th? I'd assume if i've not gotten it after that i've dodged a bullet?

Would not assume that at all! They only have to post it within 14 days if it does not reach you for almost a month its not their problem your post is slow its yours you only get a day or so to respond when it arrives as you must respond within a month!

Like many things in life its a 1 way street if you do not receive within a month then I think you got away with it! If you got very lucky vehicles upfront obscured your number plate just enough they could not read it fully. I was very upset & surprised to get mine as the mobile unit was so far away you could barely see it soon as I did I slowed down but not enough to dip below the limit (I was only 3 mph over). I started to read about these new devices they are using capable of picking you up from a long distance away(up to 2 miles!) & it no longer matters if its pointed in the other lane in the other direction they can track any plate on both sides of the motorway :( The way the camera van was parked was so crafty it was barely visible to your line of sight just slightly appearing over the concrete bridge wall but just enough to catch lots of motorists out  as I got close to it I could clearly see the massive camera lens. When coming back the same route a few hours later the vehicle was not even visible from the other side of the road until after you had passed it so anyone speeding on that side would have been caught out immediately as no way to see it at all as the bridge wall totally concealed it until after you had passed under the bridge!

Pleaded guilty to mine straight away (took a week to arrive) but almost 2 weeks still later not heard anything back I am hoping I get the speed awareness course but it seems strange to not get any response after almost 2 weeks (they are probably overwhelmed with how many people they caught out!).

As far as I'm aware, the thresholds haven't changed nationally - they certainly haven't in Hampshire and Thames Valley areas. What force area are you in?

Thames Valley was where I got the ticket. Its been almost 3 weeks since I pleaded guilty still not heard anything back perhaps they are reviewing it before going further usually I would expect a response within a few days if I pleaded guilty by post (I sent it back special delivery).

First time I ever got one as well in over 20 years driving 100% my fault I know but still not easy to accept!

Motorway M40 70 is the limit I was doing 81 just over the 79 threshold.

See this is why I have no respect for speeds limits on NSL roads like this.

Spped trapping outside of a school, housing estate etc, fine, 100% don't have an issue with this plus anyone speeding there deserves to get prosecuted.

But doing 81 on a motorway... how is this achieving anything but generating revenue?

It's in the name of "safety", it's such ********. There are many, many other things drivers are doing all the time on motorways which are far dangerous, just speed it an easy thing to prove.

I agree 100% with you obviously (dry sunny day) but still many others will say my fault. We all know its nothing to do with safety if I braked hard I would have easily dipped under the threshold but then caused a collision behind as those drivers would have reacted to me braking hard :(

All the time I am seeing drivers do really dangerous things like undertake then swerve violently in front or just not pay any attention to other traffic  yet few proper traffic cops anymore so they get away with it as under the limit or no cameras around (except dashcams of other drivers).

Not leaving enough braking distance.

Changing lanes aggressively, not using appropriate signals etc.

People playing with their phones etc whilst driving.

People with cars in poor condition, bald tyres, worn out brakes etc

Sitting in right lanes not overtaking, and not pulling over to allow faster cars to pass.

These things happen, all the time, all the time, and go unpunished.

But no, you doing 81, you criminal you, you child murderer........

but i thought the limit was 70mph...... guys we all make mistakes we all (or most) speed on occasion but when you get caught just pay the money and forget it. the argument that my car is perfectly safe at that speed or i am a safe driver at that speed only goes so far, you cant drive other peoples cars . what if someone lane changes in front of you ? yours and there day ends badly , or a mechanical failure on your car?.

im not a saint and speeding often happens but if caught pay the money or dont speed.

a limit is a limit if not happy with speed limits complain to your mp (for what good that will do)

So you're saying you got caught doing 73mph in a 70mph limit in the TVP area? Am I understanding that right?

nope he was doing 81 in a 70 and fair play he is accepting it.

Ah, my mistake. Thanks for the clarification.

For reference there is a national speed enforcement fortnight going on at the moment, so loads of speed enforcement is happening all over the country.

81 in a 70 I saw the mobile van a long way away I could have braked very hard to dip under the threshold causing the vehicles behind to probably collide but I braked gently & got caught from about 1/3 of a mile away! 3 weeks this week I have been waiting now for the outcome (pleaded guilty by post) perhaps they will give another speed awareness course otherwise I get my first ever points after 20 years driving!

I thought the range on mobile vans was ~ 1 km, and that was several years back -
presumably they just open the back window and target it down the carriageway and it does its thing

Have you had a speed awareness course in the last 2 years? If not, they should offer you one.
