Interim upgrade for 3080

Some good info here guys, thank you I really appreciate it.

I actually use an Asus D2X although I'm sure onboard sound has surpassed this by now (the offical drivers don't even support Windows 10 but I use a third party driver). I'm a little picky and need to EQ to get the sound I want so will test the board, D2X and likely look into a modern solution if I'm not happy so not the end of the world. With so much marketing nonsense it's hard to tell what's actually better.

The rendering side is just a dabble, if I was truly serious I'd build a dedicated server or pay to use a render farm. I think a 5900X is the sweet spot, could always upgrade to a 5950X a year or two down the line but I stuck with my 6700k this long without much complaint.

I think x570 is also the way for me, although there doesn't seem much in it for similar boards anyway. I am tempted by the ~£300 interim, great performance over what I have for a small fee, but I've always gone for something that will last me 3-5 years without too much tinkering. I can't see myself rushing to try the next gen unless I find I can't do what I want with my current system.

Now for my house sale to complete so I can put my money to less boring use and stop bottlenecking this 3080 :S

That marketing nonsense is exactly where most "advance" happens.
Even very expensive boards claiming all kinds of audiofoolery have had cases of EMI problems.
Similarly I've read complaints about big hype boards not giving loud enough sound with 250 ohm Beyers.
While I've myself tested basic board with basic Realtek ALC892 implementation giving enough volume for hearing dangerous volume for long term listening.
D2X is one of those Xonars with crazy high output impedance, so that can mess frequency response with some headphones.

X570 gives enough PCIe (v4) lanes for having three M.2 drives without disabling anything.
And even x1 slot would give 2GB/s bandwidth.
