Hi,

Short version I had to return my 5700XT due to the known driver issues. My friend is looking to keep the budget between £300-400.

I told him a 3060ti FE is his best choice but its hard to get so was looking for other options if he decides he needs one now.

Am I right in saying his only good options are a 2060 (£399) or 1660ti (£350) are the only good ones?

I know the 6600XT just came out which is same performance as a 5700XT but the whole AMD driver issue has left me very warey of using them again.

Cheers

Cheers,

Why is the 6600XT getting such a bad wrap just now? Is there still driver issues?

And how are Overclockers for returns if the card does infact keep having driver issues?

Amd always seem to have driver issiues but never encountered them myself not sure how overclockers handle such but usually excellent customer service. .

I think there was more expectation for the 6600xt to perform better at that price point.

You say your 5700xt is being returned what are you expecting?

I'm the same, never a problem with mine or others, but his and his brothers both used 5700XT and have been horrendous..

The way things are yeah the 6600XT is overpriced but because of supply and demand (and non existent MSRP) unless we are lucky to get the 3060ti you wreckon the 6600XT at £399 is the best option to replace?
(I will ask OC about returns with driver timeout issues)

Yes the 6600xt if you cant get the 3060 is the best choice but just to add the 6600xt Amd cards in general take a massive performance hit when ray tracing or dlss is enabled.

I think he is going to just get a 6600XT and see if it works, if it gives the same performance as his 5700XT thats fine, I know the 3060ti is best option but he can't even use the PC just now lol.

Cross fingers no issues with it but if there is 14 days to fully test.

What 5700 known driver issues?
There haven't been any known driver issues since December 2020 when they released two terrible drivers in a row.
All three Radeon cards in my household had issues back then. No problems at all since. Used all versions released, and updated again a couple of days ago.

Reddit, AMD forums, Youtube.. basically everywhere has this issue. Driver Timeout error. Not sure if its driver to windows update issues but as per its not resolved quick enough.

If u even look at the latest drivers patch notes it even mentions it.

The reason it's gets a bad rap is its the same performance for the same price even at MSRP as the 5700XT was 2 years ago, it also has some issues if your running on a PCIe 3.0 board as it only runs in X8 mode so at 1440p in games like doom eternal it performs worse than the old 5600XT.

If your desperate and need a card then I guess it's an option but if your not in a rush then either an 3060ti FE for £369 or one of the OCUK 3060ti deals for up to £450 would represent a much better buy with an extra 20% performance a better feature set and longevity.

Yeah he crumbled lol, told him waiting for a 3060ti FE was better performance etc but he needed one now so bought the 6600XT. Hopefully this will install with no driver issues and if it does we can return it.
I told him the performance was basically like for like, its just a newer model card.
He games at 1080p anyway and hopefully it will work fine for that, weird that they done this with the 8x bandwidth.

Because of the state of graphics card pricing. The market is a mess. The last available batches of 5700XT’s retailed at £650, £500 for 5600XT’s

Even now, proper no frills, corners cut budget RTX2060’s are £400 plus.

Weird, the only time I've ever had that problem was when I went too far with overclocking / voltage tuning. Not a single problem on default settings or a mild undervolt.

Yeah as I say mine has been rock solid (and the one before). But based on the two 5700XT I have tried:
MECH OC - was getting black screen and kicks to desktop, fixed by undervolting and adding in aggressive fan curves (not heard anything back so assuming its still ok)
GIGABYTE - literally tried everything then gave up lol.

Cross fingers this 6600XT plays ball with us :)

Myself.. I will be scouting for a 3060ti/3070/3070ti preferably.. once I have a GPU I will build my new system (still running haswell CPU lol)

Well I'd suggest that its not as widespread as it would appear, clearly there was an issue with a driver in March 21, but all the other issues appear to be December last year.
As we know, even if 95% of people have no problem they don't post anything, but the other 5% will post everywhere to find a solution. I'm not saying this is wrong but it has to factor in.

If i Google issues with every card and component I've ever bought, even the ones that caused me ZERO problems I will find pages of 'issues'. That's the strength of the weakness of this information age.

There have clearly been issues with a couple of AMD drivers since December but how many drivers have actually been released? Just roll back a driver until it's sorted. Users like to blame AMD drivers far too often in my experience, even when their PC is a **** show of apps/bloatware/malware/flaky games.

A couple of years ago a friend of mine who always used Nvidia did a new build with a Radeon card. He had random crashes. He instantly blamed the Radeon drivers and returned the card. He bought a Geforce card and had exactly the same problem. Turned out it was the BIOS needed updating.

I'm not defending AMD here! I think the way they handle this sometimes is sloppy/slow at best. But people miss out on some good cards based on erroneous conclusions. AMD need to do something about this now if they want to even start evening the market share.

But if you hear hoofs, think horses and zebras..

That all being said, and just as I look like a Radeon fanboy I'll add that 6600 msrp is a joke!

All I say is 5700XT would not work with any drivers or settings

RX580 worked perfect

Then purchased a 6600XT (agree msrp is joke but at this point in time it seems normal) and it also worked fine..

Take from that what you will lol.
