3 plasterers. All poor jobs.

I hate looking for tradesmen, the number one reason I take on most jobs myself, as a homeowner I think you put more effort in.
Another +1 from me.
Plus I get to buy more tools, because you can never have enough, no matter what Mrs Icebear thinks.

got any pics of the examples?

Surly though a great plaster will make your wall nearly 100% ready for paint
anything less than 90% complete would really annoy me.

Have you paid them in full?

Is it not common practice for domestic work to hold 5% of their fee, which will only be paid once the job is complete and to yiur satisfaction?

The jobs I've had done you pay after in full, but not normally anything before the job. Guess it takes trust on both sides, but they do know where you live.

But overall each has needed afterwork.

Plastering will always need afterwork, or as it's often called, decorating.

Like you, the main issues were small bits of plaster that hadn't been smoothed over, a few bits where the plaster isn't perfectly level and uneven bits where the plaster joins skirting / windows.

Plastering != decorating.

I think next time I'm just gonna try and do it myself. Spent hours so far sanding and filling. Then I'll see shallow indents after the mist coat goes on. If I have to do this much sanding anyway may as well try a small patch myself next time

What did they do to cause that much damage?!

It was a catalogue of errors right from the start. Should have stopped them earlier to be honest, but gave them the benefit of the doubt.

We were having our bathroom redone. Started with them cutting a giant hole in the floor, in the wrong place, and went from there. Ended up with me coming home from work to find the bathroom was covered in black paste, crooked tiles, adhesive showing through the grout, the hallway, landing and kitchen were covered in the same black paste as the bathroom. The ceiling, walls, doors, cups and mugs from them having their tea. In the end we had to have the entire lot redone from scratch. Not sure what it was, but it set like rubber.

What amazed me was the look on their faces when I told them they wasn't getting paid. I said I'm lucky I don't bill you for the damaged you've caused (which I should have done, but after weeks and messing about I just wanted them gone).

Think I have a photo somewhere  not sure I can look at it again

Oh yeah, and everything was attached with silicone rather than screws. Toilet, basin, all the pipework. Tons of silicone on everything.
