Need a cost effective method of heating one room

I don’t really understand how you can need heating at this time of year. The peek temperature is 20+c at the moment. We won’t be putting any heating on for another month at least. Nearly made it to November last year.

Does that thing actually do anything? Looks really small
Yes. Its mains powered. About 200w. I have it blowing over my fingers / keyboard. I have to put it about a foot away so its not too hot. No point heating the whole room when it's just me sitting at a computer working from home

My wife feels the cold so she is sitting watching TV with a blanket around her and sometimes a hot water bottle. She has to have the heater on in a small shower room. I agree with the suggestion of a smaller, warmer room if possible. The trouble is, if my wife is in charge of the heating it will be she will keep putting it up and up. She prefers the temperature at 21°C + and I prefer it at 18°C so when she feels OK I feel uncomfortable. She will sit and complain she's cold rather than go and put extra clothing on.

Women are mental. You could have two sitting next to each other in a temperature controlled office and one would be claiming it's freezing whilst the other complaining it's too hot.

They are just built different.

If she wants heating now then yeah winter won't be kind to your bill.

I suggest that you look into insulation. You can get under floor insulation. Wall insulation. Then upgrade your existing loft insulation. You can even get cladding (decent stuff) for outside of your home.

Or you could always move to a new build built by a decent builder to modern standards. My in laws and my parents had old homes. Ones that were built well over 100 years ago with massive ceilings and such. They literally had zero insulation and would take all day to heat. They were cold all the time. Only way to survive in those is by wearing at least 3 layers.

You could always get some form of exercise equipment and tell your wife whenever she takes her dedicated screen breaks does some exercise. You don't need a lot of space to do jumping jack's, kettle bell exercises, etc.
