Hi all,

So we live in a semi detached house that apparently doesn't have the best noise protection and live beside a lady in her 70s that is hard of hearing.

I've spoken to her about 3 times before about noise around certain times etc and to be fair she has always apologized but the noise seems to creep up or just go up on some occasion and then stay up.

I'm always pleasant but feel a bit bad that anytime I call it's usually with some problem we need to resolve, though she's usually the same. I'd like to believe this is just innocent but I guess I want to get the message across in a firmer way without upsetting her.

Anyone dealt with similar before? What's the nicest possible way to do this while getting the message across?

Insulate your wall. What do you expect her to do? Not watch TV comfortably in her own house?

There are worse people to live next door to than one going deaf. Unless it's really intruding on your life enjoy the freedom to play your music loud or hoover at 11pm guilt free.

Old peeps often don't realise how loud they have put the TV up if it happens over time.

You are screwed. She is hard of hearing and needs things that loud to hear them.

You can't tell someone to not hear in their own house. You can't fight fire with fire either as she won't hear you :D

Often when I phone my dad I have to tell him to turn his telly down. It’s like trying to talk to someone in the middle of a war zone.

Has she got no family you could approach politely about it! She could benefit from a hearing aid.

The MIL is hard of hearing but won't admit it or go to have a hearing test.

Her tv drains the local sub station its that loud.
Lucky she lives in a elderly place so they're all blooming deaf it seems, you walk past their doors and all you can hear is the tvs booming.

Get chatting(loudly) and offer to take her for a hearing test as you're concerned for her health;)

What sort of noise? Loud TV? Door banging?
I was thinking more drum and bass as she downs g&t’s like there is no tomorrow!

If talking to her has no effect the only real option you have is the council and they will want evidence that she is causing a nuisance which is going to be pretty difficult to prove against a little old lady who is going deaf! Just wait till she moves out and the new owners spend a year modernising the place you’ll be desperate to get her back!

Wall sound proofing, it is very common to get done. i was brought up in a house where you could hear next doors conversations and vice versa
