Xbox: Redeeming other region game codes no longer possible ?

I bought a us game code and used a vpn from nz to us to redeem mid last week and it was fine, hope nothing has changed!

Edit: I did use the old xbox app that has the store still embedded on my Android phone with avast vpn and all was good, not tried it any other way.

Thanks guys, I re tried with different VPN's. Urban VPN worked fine !
